stock rally wheel question.........

dumb question here.. what hardware is required to mount stock rally wheels, AND, the center caps. i know there are 3 bolts that mount the cap to the wheel, but what nuts are used on the actual studs?? does a set of nuts bolt the wheel on, then the cap goes on then other nuts?? just a bit confused. oh, and where would i be able to purchase this nut set? thanks guys.

Re: stock rally wheel question.........

As for the lug nut you can go down to AutoZone and pick up a set of standard lug nets in a set of 20 with locks for around 25 dollars at least here locally. I am not sure if you can get them without the locks that would be by store I would guess. You can also buy them individually from behind the counter if they have 20 for about the same price as the set with the locks. I think I got some for right at 99 cents but took a while for the store to get in all 20 for the 4 wheels.

The center caps you can get the bolts at a local hardware store. I can't recall the size but I am thinking its 5/16 but that sounds a bit large to me.

Depending on where you get the bolts for the center cap ( LMC should have OEM bolts ) as long as the bolt doesn't extend past the wheel you should be able to put the cap on with the wheel on or off the truck.

Re: stock rally wheel question.........

Three 5/16" bolts hold the stock center cap to wheel.

73-87 trucks:
2wd 1/2 ton trucks require a 1/2" lug nut.

4x4 1/2 ton trucks require a 7/16" lug nut.

Yes - and just to add, they are a steel nut with a stainless acorn style cap. I got mine at a local swap meet.

Re: stock rally wheel question.........

Thanks...It was going on an Orange truck. I completely sand blasted the wheel back to bare metal.

I went on a whim to try the simulated chrome on the wheel. The owner of the truck didn't have the beauty rings at the time I was working on the truck. It turned out looking pretty nice without the rings on. Even with the rings it still added a nice touch. Also when I painted the bowtie the same orange it made it really stick out on the truck as well versus the yellow.

I also did a black wheel as well but the orange looked better with the orange truck.

I posted the pic to show that you should be able to get the cap on with the wheel off as the orange showed through the cap.

As a side not when I get around to my 72 I will probably go the same route I went with these wheels only a different color or course

Re: stock rally wheel question.........

Yes but it was a PITA trust me to get it to come out smooth. The black wheel happens to be flat black btw. Its got me thinking instead of blue for my 72 I may go with flat black now since I have a set of ralleys on it now...

Before and after pics from the same truck.
