headers - GONE !

Removed my headers and installed 2.5 Rams horn manifolds instead. Very happy with the drop in overall engine noise - - and there was a bonus !!

I have not owned my blazer for very long.. so there are always new things popping up.

While doing the header removal I noticed that there were no bolts in motor mounts ! The engine was just squirming around to wherever torque and chance let it !!!!

So even though the job sucked REALLY BAD it was well worth it... !!

Did you get a 'set' or install two drivers side manifolds?

Where'd you get em from?

I did the same thing on one of mine and I agree, it's a great mod and the performance of the 2.5's is pretty decent too.

Re: headers - GONE !

Probably will trash the old headers.. they are pretty rusty and dented here and there... not worth anything.. not even shipping..

Yep same here.

No need to deal with those old style heat risers that come on the pass side if you don't need to.

Where's the pics...?

Re: headers - GONE !

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I just put a 330 hp crate motor in my Blazer. I used the existing exhaust manifolds. After I glass beaded them and painted them with POR 15. A couple of my buddies said " OH man you left HP on the table " YEp I did. But I did not leave the leaking exhaust gasket, noise, faded/gone coating, now did I.

Re: headers - GONE !

Good for you. I have never been a fan of headers on a vehicle meant for mostly street driving. They are wonderful on a race car, but more trouble than they are worth on the street, just my opinion. Also it's good you found the motor mount issue, bet it's like a whole 'nother truck now that you have that those two things straightened out.

Re: headers - GONE !

Critter - you are absolutley right. It is much better to drive now...

Cparman - I am 100% with you on the "leave it behind". And we really didn't lose that much hp anyway.. I mean.. with 4.11 gear and a 383 this thing will flat rip it when you stomp on it.. but I don't do that too often so the small hp loss is a great trade off for getting rid of those noisy headers !

I just keep chipping away @ the stone and the truck keeps slowly getting better...

Re: headers - GONE !

well put. I keep chipping away at the stone ------. I bought my Blazer a year ago, and was nervous that it would not make the ride home 100 miles. If I were to put the top on it, I would probably drive it anywhere now, so I have been chipping. Some suspension improvements, and then a nicer set of wheels, and I"LL BE PIMPIN !
