Here is the only pic of the cross member i currently have. I will try to get a close up later. I believe the cross member is possibly out of a 67-72 but not sure. It was already in the truck when I started. I made the spacer from a piece of 1" flat steel, using the stock trans mount as a template.

I was scuffing the new rockers I installed to prime and noticed there was surface rust underneath the reproduction sealer! Is this normal? I am gonna go ahead and strip to bare metal then prime to be safe, but wtf?

I've seen the same thing. The e-coat lifts a little and rusts underneath. I won't paint over that crap anyway. You're better off starting with fresh metal.

yeah, that pic was from the drivers side, so I guess I will strip both sides and prime fresh.

Filled a few more holes in the firewall, blocked and primed. Stripped rockers, got cab corners finished and primed also.

I think I said I used 1" plate to make the spacer, but I used 3/4" with 1/8" piece of rubber.

Tommy,

Lookin through your build and here i s see you have the saddles mounted or sitting on the trailing arms and not welded to the axle tube...It this just for the fitting process or are you leaving it like that...im changing diffs on my truck and was planning on welding saddles and track bar mount to the new rear end...let me me know what you did how you did it and pics if you could.

I am going to weld the seats to the tube, I was just laying it out for fitment. I will post some pics of them welded on with the trac bar mount as soon as i get it set.

Shouldn't be a problem, The transmission sits on the spacer with the same surface area as it would have on the crossmember. In my opinion, it should be fine.

You're project's looking good! I used the same motor/trans/diff combo in my '66. I noticed you said that you made a spacer for the trans crossmember to level the transmission. One thing you may want to keep in mind is that whatever you set your pinion angle at you need to do likewise with the motor so that the trans tailshaft and the pinion yoke are both on the same plane. If you don't you may run into problems with u-joint vibration. If you set the pinion angle at + 3 degrees then the trans needs to be set at - 3 degrees.

got the axle seats welded on along with the track bar mount I had made. For the rear shocks, I used CPP rear shock mount kit. It relocates the rear shocks for lowered trucks to correct the angle for better performance. As for the track bar, I purchased it at performance online, and had a mount fabbed up to weld to the rearend.

test fitted the cab on the frame today. The motor clears good, but the tailhousing on the transmission is about 1/2" from the cab floor. How much room is sufficient?

It shouldn't move much unless you have a broken transmission mount.

Used a spray on truck bed liner to coat the underneath of the cab. I went with Raptor liner. Its a urethane base coating that comes in a kit with 4 seperate 1 liter bottles you can mix as needed. I used 2 bottles which gave me two good coats.

Nice design on the trans cooler. Do you have a pic of the whole unit? Are there any specs on how it compares to the ones you put in front of the radiator?
