77' Blazer Tailgate removal

From 12+ years exposure to the elements it seems the tailgate on my 77' is rusted shut. Either that or the lock is broken all together. The window regulator and all of the insides seem to be rusted out @ this point. What is the easiest way to remove this without cutting it out? I need to take the whole thing off to replace the broken glass. I think it might be cheaper just to by a donor tailgate from the local pick and pull than trying to salvage this.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: 77' Blazer Tailgate removal

If the window regulator is in the up possition the gate won't open. there is a lockout the only allows the gate to open when the window is down. You can bypass this by pulling the inspection panel off the inside of the tailgate. Look inside and you should see a rod from the latch to the bottom of the gate. This rod is spring loaded but you can pull it down enough to engage the latch...

Thanks Chuck. I will give this a try. Got the Blazer stashed @ my job so my wife won't give me slack.

Your hiding your truck at work, so the wife won't find out about it? That's awesome! I thought I was sneaky, hiding my new guns in the closet so she wouldn't know. If I fill the gun cabinet she won't let me get anymore guns. Now I just need a place to hide vehicles.

Re: 77' Blazer Tailgate removal

You like that one Damien???????? She knows I have it (and wasn't too thrilled with me buying it) but, I bought it anyway. I still have my 82' SWB jammed in my (1) car garage trying to put it back together. I figured I would cut my build short on the truck and get it out of the garage. That way, she can open the door without being bombarded with that old car smell we all know love.... I figure by next summer, I can move the Blazer to the garage and put it under the wrench. I hide all of my guns in the closet downstairs so, she has no idea how many I have. Gotta keep the purchases small so she doesn't find out!!!!!!

As long as the bills are paid and I buy her something one in a while, she doesn't know how much (or how little) $ I have. College will be so much better when its a memory.
