Suspension for 54....

Can a late 70s GM truck cross member be installed on a AD Frame?

I saw a picture of a late 70s cross member on a 54 frame and it looked like it fit but I am wondering if it will work.

Has anyone seen this done before?

Re: Suspension for 54....

Never done it myself,... but have seen the end results.
To me,... these truck frontends are too wide for these AD trucks.
Alot of people are using complete S10 frames (standard cab longbed frames) for a cheap conversion.
A Mustang II based crossmember is another choice.

Re: Suspension for 54....

Here's a good link.
http://50chevy.freeservers.com/Bolt_...pendent_2.html

In the article he uses spacer plates to gain the extra width of the crossmember, it makes the wheels stick out aways. My crossmember got 1 inch taken out of the middle and welded back together. I am not real far into my build so I will keep my 54 Burban thread updated as to my progress.

Re: Suspension for 54....

Thanks for the info. I just finished rebuilding a cross member for my '69. It fit just right and now I have disk brakes and a sway bar. too many projects....
