Looking into an aftermarket power steering pump bracket for a '69 with a SBC 350. Any idea what model pump would be in the truck? Have a belt alignment issue. Want it to mount in the same spot as stock.

Haha I thought the guy that put the new motor in my Grandpa's old truck(my new truck 69 Chevy c-20 lwb) just slapped it all together and didnt care about the alignment. obviously there is something wrong. Let me know what you find out and I will let you know what I find out.

If anybody knows what style pump came on a '69 C-20 with a 350 that would be a big help. And if your running an aftermarket bracket would like to see that too.

Thanks for the reply.
I saw that one, I don't want to bolt to the water pump. So a '69 with a 350 would have come with a Saginaw P series pump? I'm trying to figure out my options. I'm thinking something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFF-6504B/

So I bit the bullet and ordered the bracket BAGNDRAGIT posted. Pretty spendy, but hopefully it'll sort out my problem with throwing belts. And hopefully it's a P series Saginaw pump that I got.

I just went thru this, and as for alignment, all you need to do is space out the 2 bolts that go to the block, I have/had the same issue and all I did is add 2 3/8" washers on the block side on the mount, and BAM! perfect alignment. The bolts that cam with my bracket where easly long enough to support the extra thickness.

The reason for my misalignment, was due to buying a new aluminum water pump, the house is just a tad thicker on the flanges and pushed the pulley out some, so I had to align all my pulleys to the water pump. Good news is that on all the pulleys all i had to add was 2 washers.

I have some finished pictures, Ill post them in this thread for you.

I wish it was that simple. I think my bracket is bent. Bolt was broken off in the block. Mounting hole in the front of the pump was stripped. The pump pulley is at a slight angle. I'm just going to go all in, new pump, bracket and pulley. Edit: It looks like shimming it might work, but I'm going to just redo it all anyway.

Aaaaargh!!! On closer inspection the bracket I ordered won't work. The heim end adjuster part would hit the alternator belt. Gotta wait for my order and send it back. What a PITA.

My Alan Grove bracket worked like a charm.

I did have to mod the alternator bracket, but I knew that when I bought it.

FWIW, if you've got an LWP I've used the March bracket many times, mouted in different locations, very successfully.

Sinister I looked at my dads 72 and think I found out why the pumps are off. His truck ahad a real thin balancer. And min ehas the standard balancer I am going to look further into this and find out what balancer the small blocks came with in these trucks.

that is the exact same thing/design, as the Alang Grove I have.
It should work perfectly. One note on mine, I had to add 1 washer to the block side of the bracket for perfect alignment, due to my aluminum water pump all my pulleys needed to be moved out a bit, But i'm a bit anal whit my belt alignment.

quick question on everyones setup. these part numbers are state for short waterpumps. are all of you running short water pumps? I have a long waterpump and NO accessory holes in the heads and i cant mount alt. nor power steering... any thoughts

Alan grove components lets you chose short or long. I have a long BBC pump.

Could you send me some more information on your setup. I talked with Keith at Alan Grove and I am planning on getting the brackets from them also.
I have a SWP and all of the kits I am seeing put the ALT. on the passenger side.
If you can give me some information on the how you made the Alt. modifications and maybe some part information on that you used I would be very grateful.

well I had to cut the alternator bracket to fit the power steering pump. This cut wasnt bad at all, the bracket was designed with ALOT of extra metal & this allowed it to be cut without compromising its structure.

Here are some pictures, you can see where I cut it.

Here is the part number of the alt bracket I ordered

Here you can see the stock bracket, take a good look at the lower section

Here is the bracket after I cut it with a cutoff wheel,hacksaw, & grinding wheel

the mod to the bracket only took 20mins, but I did have the engine mocked and was able to mount and un-mount the bracket during the cutting. All in all I would do it again, it was easy & I still get to keep my alt/power steering on the driver side.
