Looky what I found...

It was a pretty dead day at work today. So while I was flipping through old O.E.M. accessories catalogs I stumbled across a listing for a retrofit kit for power mirrors`that are listed for a '96 model but look like they can be mounted into the standard stainless steel clamshell style mirrors most commonly found on our '73-'91 squarebodies. I've got the part number for the kit and will be ordering one in to see if it can indeed be retro-fitted into our mirrors. Once I either comfirm or disprove this theory of mine I will let y'all know. What I can say is there are only 50 kits left out there at various dealerships across the nation.

Here's a pic for y'all to drool over........

Re: Looky what I found...

I would like to find some that have the turn signal arrows in them so when your blinkers are on they flash. I know it is for the newer vehichles but I think it would look good on these older style mirrors.

If this works, and you are OK with writing it up and sharing it, I would love to add it to the garage on 73-87.com. Let me know, and good luck with the install!

I want to say these were available through the aftermarket too, but the last time I saw them was about 8 years ago when I was working in a parts store.

Sounds like a business opportunity to me...

Those look cool... if you like the Dumbo ears. Now if you found some power 'sport' mirrors I would really get interested.

Re: Looky what I found...

I'm back movie was pretty good. Wish I had the resources and skills he had in that movie. Man non stop action from about 15 minutes into it until the end.

OK here's a few teasers for ya. I purposely covered the part number on the package for my own nefarious reasons. HEH HEH HEH HEHHHHHHHH...........

My only real concern is over the extreme angle that the arms are in relation to the mirror heads themselves might make the mirrors look a bit Droopy. But I'll check that out later on Once I've mounted these onto a test subject (I've got the 90-91 silverado suburban power mirrors on my suburban already so no, these won't be getting put on my current ride.May just put them up for sale when I get them completed. I just have to find my old clamshell style mirrors out in my shed....

Re: Looky what I found...

I have seen simila mirros on a late 80's early 90's chevy convesion vans in the junkyard. although the arm is angled differently. They have less of an angle and more of an "S" shaped arm. Possibley a shorter arm?

Re: Looky what I found...

So did they fit? I saw mirrors like these on a van in a parking lot I wnder if they were the factory van power mirrors or if that van had a similar kit installed.

Edit: Please make me one of the 49!

HAven't gotten anything to install them onto as yet....Do have my eyes on a red '88 crew cab dually that I'm gonna make an offer on as soon as I get settled with an insurance company from an accident back in March.
May even offer this set up for sale if I don't get the truck.

Re: Looky what I found...

Put me on your list. I have the one piece windows. It doesn't look like that would be an issue? I heard somewhere that power mirrors would not work with the one piece kit, but these don't seem to take up much space.

Re: Looky what I found...

Power mirrors from a Burb/Blazer fit, but look funny with the one piece window because the vent windo is gone and their location plays off the back of it. I saw a pic of a member's cc swb with one pieces and power mirrors and it looked funny, he even decided to remove them.

Re: Looky what I found...

If you were to move the factory power mirrors forward so they lined up with the front frame for the window then they would look good with the one piece window kits. I was thinking about doing this myself but had had to drop off the list for the window kits as I couldn't see paying an additional $350.00 for freight to get them up here to Alaska.

I took one of my spare O.E.M. power mirrors and held it up in place while I opened the door to check for clearance issues with the front fender with the door open and found it would've worked just fine. But like I said, to end up dishing out close to a grand for a window kit that so far a lot of people have had installation issues with? I don't think so.
