Edel 1406 calabration

hopefully this will all make sense

I have a 1406 and live at 6000' elevation, I want to calibrate more for performance so Im going to use the 1405 calibration chart cause its my understanding that the only difference between the 1405 and 1406 is the jets, rods and choke, so you should be able to use the 1405 chart for more performance and 1406 chart for better mpg, so my first question is the carb the same with the exception of the choke, jets and rods and my second question is, why are the secondary jets on the different calibrations always smaller than the primaries, hope this all makes sense. By the way the calibration Im thinking of using is the 24 on the 1405 chart, thank you

You should check you plugs first and see which way you should go. With the #24 setting you will be leaning out your power mode (low vacuum, when you mash on it) and making your cruise mode richer. You should see if you plugs are black (rich) white (lean) or brownish (good) and then go from there. I wouldn't change anything without knowing. If you are good change the step up spring to one heavier and that will bring in you power mode quicker.

Re: Edel 1406 calabration

new plugs are black, at 6000 feet I now im rich so I need to lean out just dont want to lean to much, on the 1405 chart at this elevation its a 24= .98p 89s 073x052r on the 1406 chart its a 7=.95p 89s 073x047r. If its basicly the same carb minus the stock set up why would the chart #s be different for the same altitude application

Re: Edel 1406 calabration

im wondering if power mode is basicly the same with 98p and 073x052 as a 95p with 073x047, bigger primary and bigger rod or smaller primary with smaller rod

If your plugs are black I would just go with a step or two leaner in both the power mode and cruise mode using the 1406 chart. Get the air fuel mixture right first and then worry about performance.

Re: Edel 1406 calabration

Just got done putting in 95p 89s 073x047rod 8percent lean. after talking to some builders they said they have gone as high as 10percent lean at this altitude so I think I have agood starting point. Gonna get it dynod when I can afford it, funny thing is, after all this I've started looking at the 670 holly I like the idea of vacum secondaries
