difference between car or truck buckets?

There's an add in our local online classifieds, a fellow has a set "bucket seats, low back, GM, late '60's-early '70's" he wants a couple hundred for them. It's kinda out of my way, and I'm assuming they are out of a car, so does anyone have a picture to compare what a low backed bucket from a car of that era would look like?

I would think the car buckets would tilt the upper portion forward and have a vinyl back on them

They also might angle tilt forward. Best to go look at them or have him send you pics.

The last year GM used low back buckets in cars was 65. Ihave attached pictures of 64 Impala bucket seats. All GM from 61-65 are similar. They tilt forward at an angle and are very thick. The only differences from one division to another and year are the covers.

I talked to the guy on the phone today and he said as far as he knows they are out of a '62 Buick Rivvy. They way he described them, they sound very similar to what your picture shows.

How tall would you say they are, floor to seat, compared to buddy buckets? I like how the back is, it would look more finished inside my Panel than the metal backs on buddy buckets.

At any rate, are they worth $200, knowing that they need completely redone?

Buddy buckets don't have metal backs. They are covered with material on the backs. Blazer buckets have plastic pieces on the backs.

Might wanna look up what the foam and covers are gonna cost for those seats. And figure what its gonna cost to make them how u want them and what you are willing to spend on them. Thats the only way to decide if they are worth $200 to you.

Maybe I was thinking of utility buckets with the metal backs. Good points, though. I figure the cost of recovering is going to be about the same no matter what old seats I find.

Im not sure about utility buckets. You're probably right.

Yeah. The cost is all relative I guess. I think these kind of seats would be cool for a panel, due to the angle tilt forward, for easy access behind the seats. Im sure you are gonna have to have custom brackets made or modify the factory brackets to sit right and mount up in the truck.

If you find a set of 67-72 truck/blazer buckets of any kind, you are more than likely gonna spend around $500 for a set that need new foam and new covers. The car buckets might save you some cash at that price.

Haggle the price with the owner until you are happy with paying whatever you wanna pay for them.

The seats that I showed you in my last post will sell on Ebay for $500-600 needing to be recovered. They would be horrible in a pickup unless you are 5 foot tall due to their thickness. In a suburban or panel though, they would work fine. The outside mountings are flat but the inside ones are at an angle to mount to the side of the transmission tunnel. This can be overcome by making new mounting brackets to the floor. The first year for the Riviera was 63, and the seats may be from them. Pre made covers for an Impala, GTO, Skylark, Chevelle, etc will fit the seats and are readily available, or you could have your upholstry shop do it for you. The seats came in full size and intermediate cars such as Nova and Chevelle. Camaro seats were thinner.

Has anybody installed 60's car bucket seats in their truck? Can't find any buddy buckets around here and am considering taking some buckets out of a mid sixties impala/camaro, and making them fit..but really hard to picture what they'll look like installed.

In the big truck cab, worried they might look stupid.

put 67-68 camaro buckets in my 69 , used 88-98 seat risers , worked pretty good , sorry , sold truck so no pics.
