You carb'd or fuel injection? I wouldnt think remote start on a carb would work to well. Or maybe a solenoid for pumping it? hah.

So if I want, I can make 20 attempts before it actually fires up. |

How do you move the throttle to set the choke, get it up on fast idle, and give it the shot of fuel it needs to fire up cold?

If it has a q-jet it should have a fast idle solenoid and electric choke. If it's tuned right it should bust right off. Not sure about a 78 but my 83 k5 had it. It cranked really good, hot or cold. Of course here in Florida "cold" is a little different than Indy cold! Also interested in what power window kit you are going with.

When I used to install we would just add an actuator under the hood to pull the throttle back to get a carbed truck to start, once its running on high idle push the button again and it would pull the throttle again and idle back down.

You know what kind of actuator you used? Brand name? Did you have to fab up a bracket or is there a bolt on kit?

I always used a regular door lock actuator, only problem is sometimes they would have a long enough pull so you would have to push the buttome a few times but really it wasnt too big of a deal. We would fab a bracket but it was pretty simple.

i've been thinking about how to get around this...
and this will pretty much only work if you have a elec fuel pump, but it might if you dont, not sure. get a no2 plate, or whole system, and run the fuel solenoid off a timer relay etc.(DEI 528T) so when it cranks it'll turn on the fuel solenoid for a second, then turn it off, so you get the fuel to mimic pumping it. plus it gives you a good reason to juice the motor!

Well, as far as getting it to remote start first thing in the morning, totally cold, I just don't really have those expectations.
So far, I haven't been able to test the remote start function because there's a problem with the wiring making the alarm system constantly think the trunk is open. Obviously, there is no trunk. I think the installer made the alarm think that the hood was the trunk, and he screwed something up in that part of the install. It was a good idea, since anyone could walk up and pop the hood on my truck any time they want to. His thinking was right, and it would need to be wired that way so that the hood opening would trip the alarm. However, even with a closed hood, when I hit the remote start button, it fails and says that the trunk had been triggered, and it sets the alarm off. I will have this all fixed on Monday, but until then, I can't really tell you how well the remote start is working. It worked fine when I first went to pick up the truck from the shop. He pushed the button and it came right to life. |

Truck is back in the shop getting the sensors adjusted on the alarm system and getting more sound deadening Dynamat put in.
When finished, the truck will be Dynamat Xtremed everywhere. -Under Hood -Under headliner -Under the carpet on the floor -On the back wall -All over the firewall I will get a bunch of pictures when it is returned, and maybe a few along the way if I get a chance to check in on the progress sometime this week. *EDIT - Just got off the phone with the guy and JUST FOR THE POSTERS HERE, he is going to take pictures of this project so that you can see the progress. You can also see his site here: http://www.sinisterautosports.com/ and I usually wouldn't ever plug a company like this for any reason, but they are doing excellent work on this. I had quotes as high as $1,200 to sound deaden my entire cab, and that was with different material that I hadn't heard of.
