Try to clean up the wires..the ones going to the A/C, the choke wire...ect. Also, see if you can run the throttle return spring from the carb, back twards the fire wall instead of to the front of the engine. If you don't want to get stainless or chrome bolts, (like the orange one on the dvr side of the intake and the black one on the passneger side) then clean them up and paint them all gloss black.
My eyes keep being drawn to the improper fit of the air filter too.

Yeah, you have too many hoses and wires all over the firewall. If you look in the magazines, you won't see that on any featured trucks. Another neat trick is to get the battery out of the engine compartment. I'll be putting mine under the bed.

you probably don't want to "take out" any, just re-route them somewhere. I like to route them under the dash, and have them all come out in one inconspicious area somewhere behind the engine.

Powder coat the wheel wells, clean up the wires nice and tight, you're taking care of the hoses, paint the fire wall and paint or replace pretty much everything else! You can keep the AC if you put in an aftermarket or restore yours to looking mint condition.

I took my AC out to clean up the "Busyness" of the engine compartment. Most of the show trucks I see have very little in the engine compartment, however, a super clean stock looking engine compartment will get you extra points, but what do I know, I've had 7 beers!

BTW, nice looking engine!

Don't forget to do what I do.Clean it up,take it to the show, and run it in the mud pit. Then you get to spend another week cleaning it again!

doesn't make much sence to dump the a'c if you're goig to use the truck on a regular basis in AZ. you could chrome or powdercoat your brackets paint your master cylinder personally i like stock type hoses if you're doing a basiclly stock truck get stock type clamps, polished stainless or chrome bolts are a must and the suggestions of bundling wires is good, on a street driven truck you need wires to run the accessories but when you run them they should be held in place with clips to maintain an orderly appearance ju8st running from point a to b and letting them lie on valvecovers manifolds etc looks sloppy
