Re: What did you get done 12/14/2009

Not to much done this weekend just slapped a new fresh coat of black magic on the summer tires that have been sitting for 2 years. Other then that its to cold to go outside or in the garge to do anything. If weather permits next weekend im going to replace the axle bearing and seal before my breaks on the passenger side give out. Its not a biggie I'm not driving it so it just hasent been a priority fix.

The kids went to grandma's and the wife and I went to the movies.. Saw the blind side, damn good movie go see it. Automotive related: I just worked in the shop for about 5 hours trying to finish a customers air ride install.

Re: What did you get done 12/14/2009

Got a carb ordered that I need for the truck and the rest of the parts I need to assemble the roller cam EFI motor. Should have them tomorrow.

New plan of attack for the fleet. My wife wanted a nice weather commuter car that does better than the 15 city / 17 highway the Tahoe gets and I talked her into making the Malibu get better mileage instead of buying another car. The Malibu was supposed to be hers anyway, it just never ended up that way.

The 400 small block and T-350 will come out of the Malibu and go into the 67 C-10 truck which is minus motor/trans right now. The roller cam motor I was building for the K20 will get a cam change to the TPI roller cam I have in place of the Vortec truck roller cam and receive the complete TPI intake system I have sitting around. Together with a 4L60 trans this will now go into the Malibu. With proper tuning and highway mode my 91 Z/28 5.7 car cranked out just shy of 28 mpg on the freeway and 19 in the city so the 300 pound lighter Malibu should do just as well or better.

The 78 K20 will for now just get a new 1406 Edelbrock carb that will eventually go onto the 67 C-10 so the Demon carb can go back onto the Camaro where it belongs. TBI & 4L80E will still go into the K20 but now it will be with the original engine and only after the Malibu is on the road again. A cam change may be in order so it will pull enough vacuum to work well with the computer controls but I will give it a try as is first.

Dropped my motor off to the engine builder, along with a set of Dart2 heads and headers I just imported from your US of A heads came complete with roller rockers, the builder will port and Polish them as well. I also got new edelbrock intake and carb as well. The plan is to get 350 easy horses out of it.

I call it not wanting to buy another car I have to work on. At least with the Malibu I know what is wrong with it and I know the engine will be fresh and strong.

A bonus is that I will be getting my 67 C-10 project truck on the road probably two years sooner than I would have otherwise.
