Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I stopped driving mine daily a couple years ago. It got rear ended on the interstate off-ramp, gas got $, and I travel A LOT.

With that said, it still sees heavy week end cruising duty and a little bit during the week.

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

If any of you have seen my pics of my girl you know she is in no way shape or form a queen, and the only shine it ever has is when the oil left on my hand smears on the primer. I drive my truck every day and especially to the river haulin my john boat. I had a gentleman say man I wouldn’t drive that thing down here (very rough dirt trail), I said nah she does good that’s what she is for, moments later my buddy pulled up in his 67 Camaro conv. that is in my opinion very nice, and makes many trips from Pennsylvania to Indiana just to hang out for the weekend. I just looked at the guy and laughed.

'cept my truck dosen't look as nice. I love the reaction I get when I tell people I drive a 1970 Chevy Pickup with a 383. can't wait for peoples reaction when I tell them it's got a Cummins. My truck is the only thing I own and I drive it everywhere and everybody that knows me knows my truck

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I drive my 72 every day because its fun and I loaned my Carrera to my son in law two months ago. I tow my 25' travel trailer with it and take it into the woods and along the swamp edges when hunting deer and hogs. Its just fun to drive and I really enjoy it!!

Total cost of ownership and operation is less than buying anything new. I have grown tired of expensive repair bills on modern computer controlled vehicles. I want to be able to fix or replace anything myself.

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I drive my 72 every day. I work 5 miles from my house in the same town - no freeways. I also take it to the Pamona swap meets, about 120 miles round trip. If I had to commute the California freeways I would be something more frugal on gas and with air bags! (Air bags being important here with the craziness that goes on the roads.)

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I agree with most of the comments above. I enjoy driving something that's a little out of the main stream, I get flattered when someone comments or acknowledes my truck, and it's the only truck I have so if I need to haul something it gets used. It's also a nostalgia thing. Besides, I can get my wife and the dog on the front seat. I don't think there'd be room for that in a new truck. I do draw the line on crummy salt/sand roads, and will wait a day or two if I can, because cleaning it in the cold is a PITA!

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I drive mine almost everyday. I am on a army base, so the commute is short and there is very little traffic to deal with. I just like people looking and say "nice truck."

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

Well when I am working construction I have to drive the company vehicle since I am the Superintendent and it is an insurance thing as well. But I do drive LowBuk as much as I can and so does my wife. That being said it has been done for just under 2 years now and one of the first trips out when done was to the speedometer shop to get it all calibrated and ended up needing a new one so it started off with .03 miles on it and it is now just shy of 17,000. So that works out to be an average of 23 miles per day for a not DD but I do my best trying I must confess I do have a 67 SS 396 4spd Chevelle with only 31k on the ticker and it does not get driven very much at all. I have had it for almost 4 years and have put less than 2k on it. Most of that is because it sits in my father in-laws garage covered up since my shop is way too messy and full to keep it here. I have plans of pulling the M21 and drop in a richmond 5 spd so it will be freeway friendly with the 4.11's and then it get driven more often.

I drive both of my 72's, trading off on one or the other each week. They are the only vehicles I own.

That's not too shabby at all. I was at my old job for 4 years, moved a few times but was never more than 12 miles round trip from home (I picked apartments close to work ). Like I mentioned above, before I lost my job I drove the 67 to work almost every day, even when gas was high I still only needed 1 gallon per day. *If* I get another job close to home I may resurrect her DD status again. I still have it insured so it can be driven whenever/whereever. My wife's last job was only 8 miles round trip.

Well my superintendent job is on average of 250 miles per day so it is nice having the company car but my truck is still my first choice until my Tahoe is done that is

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I drive my '70 a couple times a week. If I don't it becomes a b**** to start.
It seems to get about the same gas mileage as the 4.3L in my S10.

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

I've had my truck for almost ten years now and I've driven it everyday, except for the two weeks i spent putting a fuel injected motor in it.( best thing i coulda done by the way) i drive anywhere from 30 to 55 miles round trip, all highway. I drove it to high school when i first got it. Back then it had a 327 and a powerglide with 3:73's. now its got a throttle body fuel injected 355 / 700-r4 . I love every minute of it

Try driving once or twice a month. Not my truck because it's not ready yet, but I'm talking about my Chevelle. All that money into it and I barely drive it. Ooh...the insanity!!!!

Re: how may DD's and what makes you do it?

With the cold and nasty weather I try to leave the truck home as much as possible and drive my beater Cadillac to work. The Cad gets twice the gas mileage for one thing and it drives a lot better in the nasty stuff than the truck does.
But the truck is what almost always starts and runs when nothing else on the place will start or run so it gets driven more than I would like.
In the past year I have used it for a number of 110 mile one way road trips for work in all kinds of weather plus I haul anything and everything in it including a monthly trip to the dump.

Right now it has a 6 ft tall three ft wide frame for a home made hydraulic press in the back that I picked up yesterday and will turn into a good piece of equipment in the next few weeks.

I'm in with the group who doesn't want to build any truck or any other vehicle to the point where I will be afraid to drive it on a regular basis. Funny thing is that I have one friend who won't drive his "collector car" if there is a cloud in the sky that looks like it might have rain in it and he has about 20K tied up in it while he will drive his $60,000.00 O9 Cad Escalade anywhere any time and doesn't bat an eye at running over the pass in a snow storm or running down a muddy road in it. It's all on how you view the rig and how you intend to use it.
