Window Regulator Replacement

What is the procedure to remove the driver side window regulator of a '66 C10? I removed the screws holding the regulator and window channel to the door, but the forward window channel will not allow the removal of the regulator. Do I have to remove the window channel? If so, It appears the vent window assembly is holding the window channel in place...how do I remove it? Does anyone have a scan of the service manual pages covering this procedure?

Got er done. Had to remove, the vent window assembly and the window first. Thanks for the info Mark.

I'm going to do one of mine during Christmas break. Did the window come out of the track easy, or was it wedged in real tight?

You have to remove the vent window assembly to remove the window. Here's what I did:

1) Lower window to bottom.
2) Remove armrest, window crank and door handle.
3) Remove door panel.
4) Remove 4 regulator mounting screws and 2 lower window channel screws.
5) Remove vent window screws (located through door frame)...mine had 4
screws.
6) Lean vent window frame into cab then pull up and out.
7) Slide regulator out of guides.
8) Remove window.
9) Remove regulator.
10) Reverse steps 1-9 to install new regulator.

The toughest part of the whole operation were the door panel screws. I had to drill out three of them...and those fuggers were hard steel. Ruined several bits.

I worked on one of these today. I find mine is binding a bit when I put the window back in. I'm getting ready to take it all apart again. I suspect 90% of the problems with these aren't from the regulator itself as much as alignment of all the components that hold the window in place.

Can someone tell me if the piece the widow glass fits into should be centered on the bottom of the window? I'm wondering if that may be part of my issue.

Wish I could help ya Curt...my door panel is back on, so I can't take a look at it. I didn't remove the channel from the window. Can you look at the other door?

It's been years since I pulled the windows in mine but I'm almost certain the track is centered on the window. I agree with Sicboy, I'd pull the panel on the other door if that window is functioning correctly and confirm, before gluing it together.

Found the channel goes to the BACK of the glass.
Now I'm worried about how tight (or not) it will fit in the channel with just 3m sealant. It had a rubber channel in there when I took it out, but it was so hard and crumbled I doubt it was doing much. I removed all of it. I don;t see it offered for sale on any of the sites so I'm going to assume the weatherstrip adhesive is suffucient.

For those who might be pondering this I found some tape I think is supposed to be used for this. Some guys on an other forum gave a little insight.

I would definitely use the tape designed for the purpose. Otherwise the glass may be pulled out of the channel at some point in the future and fall into the door.
