A long time ago i had one made at a local upholstery place for around $125. They drilled and installed the snaps and everything.

I had one made at an upholstery shop and I believe they used the material they used on the boat tops.

Thumbs up Re: short bed stepside tonneau cover?

Here is a few:

There are alot of different tonneau covers on the market that might just work. Some expensive to the cheaper snap on or Velcro brand.

Re: short bed stepside tonneau cover?

A short step i would make. There isn't much to it and you could really make it nice and smooth with minimal holes in the truck itself

Re: short bed stepside tonneau cover?

You could even use fiberglass over 1/4 mdf and maybe use 1/2 mdf for supports. That would make it strong enough to stand on. Paint to match and done. Also could use hydro cyl to assist in lifting.

Re: short bed stepside tonneau cover?

you could go to the metal shop and have them bend you an aluminum one and get some pep boys seals , I have built one out of p.t. plywood and covered it years ago , even had a piano hinge near the back to open 1/3rd of it

I gleaned these pictures off of another member here. If I were to build one it would be just like this.

Re: short bed stepside tonneau cover?

On my 66 short step I wanted a Tonneau cover, but didn't want one of the hard ones everyone seems to make. I ordered a soft roll-up tonneau cover from Truxedo, it had to be a custom built, but I didn't want a snap type tonneau due to the weather where I live. To get the snaps to work right the top had be warm to stretch it over the rails. The Truxedo one I have is a velcro type and it is surprisingly a tight fit. Also another plus is my truck is out in the snow alot and with the bows that came with it will hold quite a bunch of snow. The latch at the back is easy to operate and it rolls up very easy for larger loads and is easy for one person to operate. They are the only ones that I found to build a tonneau cover for the short step side bed. All they ask were the measurements, I did have to drill 3 holes in each side for the rails. I have seen a few trucks around with the type that Jonathan-M in the post above described. Most of the owners said they had about 100.00 in them.

how much did the tuxedo cover cost you? and did the custom make it for you or did you have to modify it?

Re: short bed stepside tonneau cover?

About 300.00 and they did all the mods. Went right in and fit correctly. All I did was to sent them the measurements and they sent me a complete cover.
