Back to the cushy old bench.

I know buckets are "the thing" but I really don't get in to throwing new style bucket seats in an old truck. It just doesn't look right to me unless it a full custom deal. The P.O. drilled holes in the middle of the floor to mount buckets and counsil and it was the first project I wanted to address on my new truck, at least now I can fit my son and wife in at the same time.....

Thanks everyone, I love it too! I think like Rob H. it reminds me of getting into my Dad's old trucks when I was a kid.

This was made by a guy I found in Mesa, Az. He did a great job with the houndstooth, it's exactly what I wanted it to look like. Classic Industries sells the seat cover alone for almost $300, this guy rebuilt the guts and all for $175. I couldn't be happier with the quality.

I agree I have had a coulpe who thought it was Kool to be able to slide over to the middle and lean back on me....But I guess if your married for a long time you may want a wall instead of the consol...I guess for the rest of us who grew up riding a bench it brings back the thoughts of a Drive In's and the old reach around....

I did alot of measuring and looking at others, but I cant stand the back breaker.....the one I put in turns into a bench, so no space lost. It actually looks good in there too. No holes drilled.......

late model seats never look good in classics IMO. A properly rebuilt bench is plenty comfortable too.
With that chrome glove box door, if you were to paint the main flat section black, and leave the edge chrome, it'll help ballance out the dash, matching the dash inst panel.

That bench looks great. I like the bench in my grandpa's 72, it's the fully padded one, and it's really comfy.

I went from Astro van buckets (in it when I got it) to a restored set of buddy buckets and now Im back to a bench. The buddy buckets looked nice, but in the end I prefer the bench.

And Andy you know what the chrome glove box door is good for dont you? >=)

I'm about to do the opposite. Putting 98 leather burb buckets in my truck. I like my wife sitting next to me, but I always worry about hitting the brakes and her flying into the dash.

Seat looks good and that's a steal for getting it redone.

Some of the bench seats that came in these trucks are pretty uncomfortable - the one in my '67 was horrible. I will say, though, that the stock bench in my Longhorn was really soft and comfortable - I didn't know they made them that nice. It must have been an upgrade.

Love my bench too. My wife and I were talking a while back....she said, you remember when everything had a bench seat and I could sit next to you? That was a big reason I bought the old avacado pickup. A lot of intamacy was lost with the advent of the center console.
