Lowering help?

Ok, i'll make this quick. As i've said before i am very new to trucks. I'm just curious how i go about lowering my 68 longbed. It still has drums all around. And i'm looking for a cheap way, not bags at this time.

Early Classic Enterprises has a pretty good selection of lowering springs and front disk brake conversion at a pretty reasonable price. you might try their web site and see what you can find that would work best for your needs.

I believe you can change out the spindles for something later with disc.Look at lmctruck.com they sell just about anything you could want.Look at the 67-72 part of this forum you mind find your answers in there.

id go conversion drop spindles in the front with 6 lug rotors new bearings seals and then a 4 5 6 inch drop spring..

pull out the front coils and cut one round off for 2 1/2" - 3" of drop

install late 60's chevelle/malibu spings and a 1 1/2" lowering blocksin the rear.

cheap. easy. fairly low.

Thank you all a ton, i appreciate all the Input you guys have. I'll definitely have to check out those sites, and think about cutting the springs. How do cut springs effect the ride? And how dangerous can those babies be???

cutting the springs isn't dangerous, it's the removing part that could hurt........

cutting the springs has been around since the 50's, and it's no big deal. HOWEVER, cut only a little at a time and cut less than you think you'll need. the stock springs are and can be a bit weak at this point...... so cut sparingly at first.

like Shane said above, hit a salvage yard for rear springs. they cannot be cut down so you must change them out. iirc, you can also use mid to late 80's Taurus/Sable springs to drop the rear a bit. but DO NOT heat the rears to get your drop. you'll lose your ride and it can weaken the spring.

there you go, drop on the cheap.....

I suggest buy a set of drop rear springs for your truck.
Then cut the front springs for "cash friendly" drop.

Just make sure you cut the bottom of the spring,... not the top.
I use the formula:
1/2 coil cut = 1" of suspension drop.

Get it where you want it,... then head to the alignment shop, or you'll be wearing out those front tires quicker than you want.

Then when you get a few more dollars,... invest in some drop shocks and a sway bar up front for better handling.

While you have everything apart, look at the condition of the ball joints and tie rod ends.
Brake hoses are another good thing to inspect.

It's a perfect time to make sure your truck is safe.
Not just cut and drop.

a lot of good info here but I have a question also, if I cut one coil of the front springs. now I want to buy rear springs, what drop should I get? 4" or 5"? thanks
