83 Shortbed w/ 6.2L diesel...glow plug question

I have an 83 shortbed with a 6.2L diesel and I'm having problems with the glow plug system. I also have an 86 diesel suburban I'm using as a parts vehicle. I'm thinking about pulling the glow plug controller/wiring set up from the 86 and putting in my 83....I've heard the newer system is better and more reliable. Has anyone done this? Thanks!

Re: 83 Shortbed w/ 6.2L diesel...glow plug question

I haven't done the swap, but it's definitely a better controller and more reliable...I would replace the glow plugs with 60gs if you need to replace them...I would replace the controller first and see if that solves the problem...if it was mine, I'd put a Ford starter solenoid on the firewall and wire it up through a manual switch and do away with the stock controller...haven't done it to mine yet, but it's on the list of things to do...also, here's some links for you to look at for resource...
