Turbo 400 vs. 700R4

I have an '84 K5 Blazer 4X4, the 700R4 has puked out all it's fluid at 20K miles on a rebuild. That's what it did prior to the rebuild (which was done at a GM dealer). I have a chance to buy a used '88 700R4 ('87 & later are better I'm told) or an '84 Turbo400 behind a 6.2L diesel 4X4 pickup. If both transmissions are in good shape, which would be better? The overdrive would be nice, but the Turbo400 would be stronger? Would the turbo 400 have problems fitting to my NP208 transfer case? Would the driveshaft lengths need to change for the turbo 400? The turbo 400 is a little more money. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

More than likely your TV cable was not adjusted correctly, I did the same to my 84 when I installed a new carb, excessive line pressure pushed out the front seal, the front pump housing can be drilled and tapped for a small tab to hold it in.
The 400 would be a better trans for towing but if you just lost fluid and you only have 20.000 on a rebuild your trans should still be good, did the fluid come out red or brown? If you decide to go to the 400 get the 208 case that was used behind it so you will have the correct adapter and the rest is a bolt in and the drive shafts will need no modifcations, you will have to mount a detent switch to your gas pedal and wire it to the trans and a 12 volt supply so you will have a passing gear.
