Bolt sizes help needed - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can anyone tell me precisely what size bolts are needed to mount the power steering pump bracket (cast type) to the two holes on the front of a 69 350 sbc short water pump engine. I need size, thread, length and grade as I need to order them from a specialist engineering supplier.

You used a different set of standards in the US compared to us in the UK in the 1960's ( we used AF rather than UNC/UNF) and I can't just walk into any old hardware store over here and buy these bolts. I am replacing my power steering pump with the correct one rather than the bodged on later pump that was on the previously and the PO used shorter bolts to mount his home made brackets.

They are 3/8 x 16 UNC. Grade 5 or better Not sure about the lenght. But you could measure the bracket to get that

That's great, thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure on the length, I have measured the bracket but didn't want to get them too long as they are blind holes.

All sorted now. I rang my local egineering suppliers and the very nice man had some in stock and whats more was an American car enthusiast too and let me have them free of charge. He used to own a early 70's T-Bird. Now to get the old pulleys and odd brackets off....if it would just stop raining for long enough!

Funny, we have the same problem with metric bolts over here.....lol
