68 GMC K20 with V6

There is a 68 K20 GMC with the big V6 four speed and no other apparent options, all the windows are shot out and the owner says it runs. My question is since I may be able to get it cheap, how hard is a small block swap? Can I use the flywheel? How about motor mounts? Is the V6 worth anything?

A small block will bolt in...but you'll need the mounts, towers, flywheel...pretty much everything north of the tranny.

Does the engine have an air cleaner and all the connecting accessories on it? If so, I need those items to bring my 305V6 back to stock. I would be interested in buying that stuff. Let me know the status.

I talked to the guy and he said it has 70,000 miles and no rust. He wants $1,000 with another 69 parts truck. I think he'll take less.

If the windows being shot out is the worst thing...and it comes with a parts truck (asuming it has glass) I say jump on it.

thats a hell of a deal... i paid 800 for my 72. it has a lot of rust. (rockers, floorboard, tailgate, plus more) and a 350 v8 with a th350 behind it. GET IT!

The parts truck does have glass and not much else of any value. I may get this one but I need to sell the 79 first after I yank the motor

Longhorn-can I use the same bellhousing? Bolt pattern the same on the 305 v6 as chevy?? And Erl yes it has everything on top of the motor original

this truck has no power steering, anybody know how to do the pump set up? also will the power steering box off of my 79 K20 fit on the 68 k20? How about the front and rear axle?

I can't say on the bellhousing. I can look at one in a junk yard...but honestly i won't get to go untill AT LEAST friday...maybe not even then.

went back to look today, found the rust-Dang! Another wierd note, it has a power steering box on it but no pump and the box has a thick shim betwixt it and the frame

I'll bet the frame does not have the proper dimple in it for the power steering gear box. that is why the shims are there. This can really mess up the gear box sticking out like that.

I have a 305 V6 here at the office on a stand, so I could take some measurements and/or pictures. I believe the bell housing is the same as a chevy small block. Longhornmail is right about the power steering. The frame needs to be indented for the steering gear box to fit correctly. How about some pictures of the truck and the engine bay.

Doesn't sound like a bad truck at all! I paid $750 for my 1-ton '69 3500 t-tag.........I like the v-6 even though it is a tad thirsty. I guess if you want all the horses you have to feed them! When I bought it I thought it was a big block V-8 but couldn't understand where the spark plugs were(I couldn't see the coil with the air cleaner set-up on it to tell it was a six). I like popping the hood and hearing it idle.........sounds like a German D310 IH Diesel in my neighbors IH 756!
