how can i identofy my transfer case

how can i identify my transfer case,my truck is a 85 k20 with a 350 and a turbo 400 trans

If it's aluminum it's a New Process 208. If it's cast iron it's a New process 205. I'm pretty sure all of the K20's by that point came with the 208 transfer case. The 205 was only in the K30's by then. If it's the 208 there will be a round ID plate attached to it with the model (probably "NP208C"), the build date, and reduction ratio.

aluminum case 208 that one is easy.There are two different cast iron case transfers 203 A chain drive and 205 gear drive.Should be a tag on the side facing the rear.but here's a picture in case its gone.

True, but the NP203 wasn't offered after 1979.
