Re: Camshaft ??????

I'd call Summit Racing's tech line. There's a lot of things to consider with a cam upgrade, carb/intake, gears, type of vehicle usage, etc etc.

If you're just looking for a rumpty rump sound you'll end up with a rough running motor that can't get out of it's own way. Been there done that.

Re: Camshaft ??????

an '87 TBI 350 would not have had a roller cam shaft, it would have a hydraulic flat tappet. Check out http://www.tbichips.com/truckmods.htm He has a lot of good information on what your options are and what cams work well with TBI and what doesn't work.

Re: Camshaft ??????

87-95 TBI trucks had hydraulic flat tappet cams. It wasn't until the "vortec" motors that the trucks got roller cams.

Re: Camshaft ??????

ive always had good luck calling comp cams or whoever cam company you like. tell them what parts your using, and what your looking for. they can tell you exactly what to get.

Re: Camshaft ??????

Go with a Comp Cams Thumpr' cam, it is made for stock motors but has a lumpity idle, makes a little more power then stock but is best of both worlds. Check out youtube for vids.

Re: Camshaft ??????

I do know that you have to be very careful with camshaft selection when using a T.B.I.
