Question maybe I'm blind...Choke??

I posted a question earlier about hooking up my new electric choke. I ran the hot wire to the fuse box and plan to hook it into the "unfused IGN" hook up. Question is do I hook it in to the one with the little arrow (bottom) or the top one? I hooked it to the top one any went out for a drive, but the choke didn't seem to work(ran real sluggish until it warmed up), but then again, I haven't adjusted the choke yet either. Cnut

Could I get away with hooking it to the + side of the coil? Someone mentioned that but the Edelbrock instructions say not to.

I'M SORRY... I JUST ASSUMED YOU WERE RUNNING A HEI DIST. YOU NEED A FULL 12 VOLTS & THE HOT WIRE TO A POINTS STYLE DIST. IS ONLY ABOUT 9. (PROBABLY WHY EDELBROCK SAYS DON'T DO IT) A JUNKYARD HEI IS ONLY ABOUT 30 OR 40 BUCKS, & IS A MAJOR WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT. I WOULD VERY HIGHLY RECOMEND FOR ANY CARBED CHEVY MOTOR. JOHN

Re: maybe I'm blind...Choke??

good guidance, But I converted my points to electronic with a Mallory kit (under the stock cap) a few years back. I would think that I now have 12 volts, do you think?

I don't have any experiance with mallory dist. But i'll bet it does. If you have an electrical tester with a "volts" mode it easy enough to check. John

Re: maybe I'm blind...Choke??

just follow the wire from the dizzy ...it HAS TO go back to your fuse panel....if not check the FAQ for install on an HEI and correct both problems......

If your going to step up to HEI Skip White...brand new $50.....dont waste $$ on junk yard ones

Re: maybe I'm blind...Choke??

Did you hook up the ground on the choke? It needs to hook to a carb mount stud... check for 12volts at the Choke...

If it's cold out you should be able to trun the key on (don't start) and watch the electric shoke butterfly move with the air cleaner off...

Re: maybe I'm blind...Choke??

Just thinken here, but if you did a test drive and the choke wasn't workin sounds like you have it backed all the way off to start with? The electric part heats the pot in order for the choke to open up. Don't know about anyone else, or your carb setup but the way I setup my choke is to set it, engine cold, and turn the cover until the choke closes completly and lock it down, thats the start point, if you need more or less just tweek it from there. have you checked to see if you are getting 12 volts at the choke? I ran mine to the fuse panel and just hooked into an ign power lug, I did put an inline fuse in at the fuse box though for safety. Good luck!

come on guys... Cut it out... It's one 12 volt hot when the ignition is on wire hooked up to the red choke wire. I just cut the black ground wire about two & a half" long, crimp a ring connecter on it & put it under one of the three screws holding on the choke adjust. Cap. Thats my ground. If it's a new carb 99.9999 times out of 100 the choke will be just fine just where the factory set it. Were not talking rocket science here... It's 1 wire. If you have to adjust it.. Read the owners manual... They explain it pretty good. Sorry for the confusion & hope you can clearly understand the message i was trying to say to your original question. john
