Header Compatability
I'm just curious, I've done some searching and cant find much... But what other make/model of cars/trucks headers are compatible with our trucks. I'm looking for a decent price of coated headers with 2 inch primaries.
Hooker sells some for our truck, Super Comp for over 700 bucks, and I know they make some for 67-71 camaro that's half the price.. I don't really get why they have to be twice the price for the same size header. Anyhow, any info would help... Thanks guys,

Re: Header Compatability
yeah I want to run the long tubes, I was just curious if there's any out there for other makes/models that will fit with the 2". because for some reason 2" and over long tube coated headers for our trucks are rough to find. Especially at a decent price.

I think the Camaro ones may work on a 2wd with minor rework for depth of collector. The Chevelle ones have tubes routed around the lower A-arm of the A-body so they may not clear the truck frame. I have a set of big block headers for our trucks too so I will stack them all together this weekend and take a few pics for comparison.

Re: Header Compatability
There used to be a guy on here who ran full length Camaro headers on his lowered black 2WD truck. They tucked up very nicely inside the frame rails, but he had to build a custom transmission crossmember to get his exhaust to clear everything. You might be able to find some info about it by doing a search. I can't remember his name on the board, sorry...

I bet a first gen Camaro trans crossmember would work great and could be just the right width. I will take a look at this this weekend and see.

Re: Header Compatability
Unfortunately I don't remember any details like brand or any other problems he might have had (like shifter clearance). Don't spend any money based on an old man's memory.
I did several searches, but couldn't find anything. Hopefully someone else remembers the guy, and can give you better info. Slonaker |

Re: Header Compatability
$700.00 is a decent price for full length coated headers with 2" primaries. Are you sure they're1/2 the price for another model vehicle?

I wouldn't pay the $205 more they want for coated ones. You can have it done for half that. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2455HKR/

Re: Header Compatability
Those are competition headers - The 2" for trucks are Super Comps -and they cost more.

I don't think the difference in performance is worth the $350 more they cost if we can make a set of Camaro competition series 2" tube headers fit. 99% of all street driven big blocks don't need more than 2" primaries and many with the smaller stock valve sizes would benefit from smaller primaries than that. I ran 1-3/4" tubes on a 3900 pound 70 Chevelle with an evil 427 that ran 11.70 ET's on hard compound street tires. That took around 500 rear wheel HP to do so you can build some decent power with smaller tubes than 2".

Re: Header Compatability
Same should apply for the big block as they still have to fit into the same restricted space and ground clearance of the Camaro.

Re: Header Compatability
I'm waiting for someone to post pictures of their BB 2WD truck with Camaro/Chevelle full length headers. I seem to remember another thread recently where the poster said the Camaro/Chevelle headers wouldn't fit on his truck.
I want to install headers on my truck but I need the ground clearance. The shorty headers I've priced seem way high vs a set of full lengths. Performance isn't an issue for me since my BB is a bone stock peanut port motor home engine. The headers for me will be purely for looks.

My concern would be do they hang below the frame rail, if so, how much? I'm running airbags and I like to lay it out when parked. Shorty headers would be a solution to my problem but i refuse to pay double the price for half the header. LOL.

Re: Header Compatability
I am going to try out a set of Thorley BBC Tri-Y's on my 73 3/4 496 truck.
We are going to install these next weekend, if everything works out right for me. I will share some images after the system in installed. Link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=3783775

Probably too much for what you want to do but for a stock height or just slightly lowered truck they would be fine. You could always build your own shorty headers out of a set of the Summit long tubes and some 1-3/4" mandrel U-bends.
