timing pointer location on an 82-84?

Hey guys....I have an 82 305 in my 71 truck...I bought the truck with this motor in it.

I replaced the water pump and noticed there is no timing indicator tab located on the timing cover.....I used the search funciton and saw some conversations about it being in the 12 O'clock position...instead of the typical 2 O'clock position.

Can someone post a picture of the stock configuration or confirm that zero degrees/tdc is in that position.

Thanks in advance.

My 84 has the timing tab that is at the dead top and not off to the drivers side....Mr Gasket sells an after market timing tap that mounts and reaches across to the top.

Well it also depends on your balancer some use the top tab and some use the side tab my dads 77 has the tab on top and uses a thicker balancer and my 82 has a 70s model block but has an aftermarket balancer and is off to the side
