WalMart Batteries - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a new battery for my burb. Does W/M put out a good battery or would I be better off getting one from the auto store?
Also, what is a good brand for around $85-100?

I bought two (matched pair) for my Dodge diesel...they lasted a whopping 6 months before crapping out. When I returned to Wal-mart (with batteries in the back of the truck) the service manager came out with his electronic diagnostic machine and proclaimed nothing wrong with them...after half a day of debating him about Cold Cranking AMPS and Diesels, he finally replaced them. I now buy my batteries else where...I prefer the Interstate Industrial/Commercial line, but they may be more than your budget (depending on the size)....just my 2 cents.

I've had good luck with Sears Diehard batteries. Running some generic POS in my truck now that seems to be doing O.K.

I've had good luck with both Walmart brands and Autozone brands. I usually check water levels once a year also and top off with Distilled water when needed. Good luck. Jim.

I run AutoZone batteries. I have had about 10 of them. I have never had the first problem with them. The only one that died early is the one in the car that has not run in 6 or 7 years. You do need to keep them charged, and I didn't. My fault, not the battery.

I just talked to NAPA today... $53 + $10 core for their brand and $85 for an Interstate...

you just had an a$$hole of a manager to deal with. they have to replace them no matter what.

wal mart batteries is all i buy really, they all come with a 3 year warranty too i think. but what i do, even if im not having any problems with it, is replace it within 6 months of it expiring. tell em it doesnt hold a charge, they show me it does (sometimes, sometimes it really isnt holding one), i say it doesnt, replace anyways. customer service comes first over arguing with the customer.

when i used to buy and sell cars, if i found a battery with a warranty, i would just go swap it out for a new one.

i know some people may not agree with that, but that battery is warranted for a certain amount of years, and no matter who owns it now, if it doesnt work - it doesnt work. should be a swap no questions asked imo.

nvr had problems with the WM batteries ive bought...... just make sure the CCA's are what you need, make sure its full of distilled water at all times and keep the posts clean..... got lucky when my old battery died in the 71... i was sitting in the WM parking lot... lol walked back in, grabbed a new battery, put in truck and walked back in with old one and got rid of it....

Imo it's dishonest and karma will catch up to you sooner or later.

I had a Walmart battery in my wifes suburban. Lasted just over 1 year and then would not hold a charge. Returned it with reciept to Walmart and had to fight to get a new one (it came with a 3 year warranty). Also, when I did get a new battery, the warranty was only good for the remaining 2 years, not another 3 like a new battery from there should have. Never again for me!

i had a wally world battery in my pinto station wagon when i got it dont know how old it was then but it worked well for the 6yearsvi had the car

I have used AC Delco batteries but I don,t buy new I ask my rep if they have any blems. I have 3 of them that are 5 years old and still running strong and they cost $25.03 tax included.

i knew someone would say that. a legitimate problem like bringing it back after a year with receipt and still have issues getting a new one? to me thats dishonest, and their karma did catch up. ive had batteries that walmart tested good, taken to an autopart store and failed, 3 different stores. so what do you do then? accept them saying its good and deal with it?

if it has a 3 year warranty, im getting a new one within 3 years...

The wallly world batts are junk. The Autozone Duralast seems to hold up very well and last. i have had 2 last for 5 plus years and another one going on 3 plus right now

Autozone's Duralast batteries are made by Interstate and are pretty much exactly the same. 7 year warranty for the gold ones.

Costco's batteries are just as good and cheaper.

I rarely buy new batteries as I can usually get a year old one with 800/1000 CCA from a write off car/truck at our Insurance company. My wife needed one and insisted on a new one so we bought it at Costco. It had a 3 year replacement Warranty and it crapped out after 2 years and 9 months. We keep receipts for everything but couldn't find the battery reciept so I called them they said bring it to the service counter at the front of the store. I did that and they looked on the computer when I had bought the battery and replaced it with no questions asked, they didnt test it at all. I don't think you can do better than that. Oh yea, their prices are very competive.

I will say only 2 words that leads to one good thing----Interstate Batteries. I have used that brand for years and any time that I end up with something else, I really hate myself. They last a long time and there are suppliers everywhere,

Get a super start battery. They might be a bit more but they are a good battery with a 2 year free replacement. I sell them everyday. you should be able to get one at A Parts city store or an o'reilly's

I have to agree that Wal-Mart batteries suck but with the 3 year warranty you can't hardly go wrong, if you don't mind swapping them out every year or two. I got one for free when I worked at a dealership. It was a take out from a used car I took it back and exchanged it for a new one and I haven't payed for a battery in 9 years. Every year or two it dies and I take it back and get a new one.
