Question Tilt steering rebuild available parts

Help,

I'm getting ready to re-assemble my truck and I noticed that my tilt steering column has a worn out shift pin hole for the shift lever. What are my options? Does someone make a new collar? I have thought of using adhesive or drilling larger and bushing it. I'm guessing this is a common wear item. What have others done? Anyone else fix this problem with success?

It is a common problem and the part is not reproduced. I had some oversize pins made which worked for a small amount of wear. Bushings are always an option. The other thing you might try is to find someone that is modifying a tilt for a floor shift. You might be able to work out some kind of trade since the shift boss is removed when modifying a column to use it as a floor shift tilt.

That would be awesome! The one I have is fine other than the pin hole being oversize. Let me know how you want to do the swap and I will make it happen.

CPP has a whole rebuilt column for sale. I would call them and see if they do sell just the bowl.

Is yours apart? Got pictures of it, so I can compare it to mine. Just want to make sure we are trading the same piece...PM me, cause I almost missed this post

If it is not apart, you will have to totally disassemble, as the bowl is the first part to get reassembled
It's the one on the right

Depending on how big the hole is, you could close it up by dimpling it with a center punch all the way around the holes, and then some sort of adhesive to help keep it in place... lab metal is pretty neat stuff

Re: Tilt steering rebuild available parts

I was thinking I could use liquid metal or something like that to fill the gap. I was hoping someone had already figured out the best way to fix it. Trading parts may be more of a hassle than its worth for both of us! But thanks for the offer.

No problem, but I agree, since yours isn't apart, it would be a hassle for you. OK, now I'm going to shave mine

Re: Tilt steering rebuild available parts

I saw this industrial strength soder type material at the local swapmeet a year or two ago. It was VERY strong and easy to apply (welding ligther). Does anyone know what that product might be called? I guarantee it's stronger than JB Weld.
