14ff locker

My '79 K20 has been doing OK with all the snow around here lately (it would do even better if I had tires that didn't suck), but I've been wondering about putting something in the 14ff rear to help out. I understand that it is pretty striaght forward. I've read so many bad things about Gov Locs that I'm starting to wonder if it's really true. My truck spend most of it's time on the road pulling and hauling crap around, so I doubt I would be happy with a chirpy Detroit. Maybe I should just buy good tires and let it go at that. Ideas and/or opinions?
