Frank, that sounds like some of the nonsense they would pull here in California. Having been to your place, not only do you keep a stelth/low profile, but all of your stuff is behind a stand of trees and cannot be seen from the road. It sounds as though Washington is taking a page out of the "Golden State's" book to increase revenue. Best of luck to you.

Frank, that sucks to hear. Maybe look into the Wa code or something. I know my parent's got out of having to annex into the city a while back because of a code in the Iowa code. It's worth a try. The city was trying to illegely annex them so the city could annex a whole section of land to get more state revenue. All of the other land was illegely zoned and annexed in the first place. After our city hall meetings things got bad for some of the older city council and staff members.

there is a guy here in town that fought this same battle. he runs a body shop restores mustangs. had probably 100 cars on his in city property. he refused to put privacy slats in his hurricane fence. he lost his appeal to the state supreme court. they were alleging he was selling parts. i think he sold some parts but not many.
But he is not a stellar tax paying citizen. state irs has shut him down several times in last 20 yrs. he has done things to aggrivate city like not paying his taxes, not having a compliant paint booth, leaving un licenced vehicles parked on road for months, he leased a giant billboard slamming the city and its "corruptness" etc.
he is still in bussines has sold or moved most of his old iron. but has put the bill board on an old tool truck on his property.
i think you have a legitimate fight. if you do it respectfully.

It lust blows my mind how the people in power always go after the law abiding,tax paying citizens, while the criminals can continue with their dealings. Tell them your not selling used parts, they are free with any arms, or drug purchase.

Typical for Washington. I've lived there a couple times and this is no surprise.

I remember a junkyard that was around Mukilteo I think. It was in the news because he had been in business there for decades, out in a quiet undeveloped area. Then with the housing boom, it got all built up. All of those people knew about the yard before they built or bought there nice new homes. Then when there was enough of them around, they sued him to close or move because it did not fit in with the "residential area". Why did the county or city allow construction of new homes next to a yard in the first place?

Just a reminder, guys, this is a thread about a guy that is frustrated with how he is being treated by government officials - we can all understand that, and at times can relate to it, but lets try to leave it at that - venting is one thing, politics is another, and if it drifts away from the subject matter too far and becomes a pissing match, it will be locked, and probably warnings will be given by the big cheeses.

First of all, This sucks brother! Secondly,and without knowing any case details,Id push it ALL the way to the states highest court and beyond if necessary! Its been dismissed out one lower court already, all they want is their payoff via scare tactics through their so called district courts due process! Liquidate and put your money where nobody can find it and prepare for the real battle. When you beat them they will come after you from a direction you never anticipated! And know that they are reading this thread! They suck and do more harm to America and to her citizens than all the combined so called enemies outside our borders!

I have been debating over the last year or two whether or not there was a need for me to join SEMA. I think I will be joining soon if officials are treating fellow car enthusiasts this way; because if I join the fight against this kind of treatment I will be targeted next. I still can't believe the no swap meet, ebay, or craigslist thing!

I am sorry to hear about your dilemma. I was curious as to the legal requirements and licensing in your state as well as county, so I spent quite a few hours researching the ordinances and licensing regulations as well as violations regarding this action. Of course, I will not comment on any of the resulting findings because that is for you and your representation.

As a side note, I feel this is a good opportunity for all of us in the “hobby” of restoring or modifying older vehicles to familiarize ourselves with our own state, city and/or county ordinances regulating the storage and/or dismantling of inoperable vehicles as well as part sales from those said vehicles. Also, familiarize yourself with your parcels zoning.

As for the “…buying or selling at swap meets, CL, Ebay or any other means is also illegal….” Most states and counties currently have ordinances regulating this as well.

For example, Thurston County’s definition of “garage sale” and language would cover the CL and Ebay venue; fortunately, the first offense is a written warning and consecutive ones are 100 bucks unless (of course) one files for a license. There is more to this, but you all get the idea.

Knowing the silly and not – so – silly ordinances pertaining to our hobby will allow us to become proactive in the automotive restoration community.
