New to Chevy's, just bought a 1970 C10
Evening all, just wanted to say hey, I am an old Ford truck guy, but I have a soft spot for ALL old things, so I ended up buying a 1970 C10 yesterday, it has the 400/400 combo, A/C, PS/PB , nice running old truck, has an exhaust leak, and needs a tune up, but it all works! I will post some pictures as soon as the rain stops and I can take some. I am not new to old trucks, I have a 77 F150 4x4 and a 63 F250 4X4, and have had quite a few older trucks. But I am new to Chevys, so I will be browsing and asking questions as they come, I am a member over at ford-trucks.com, and this has a VERY similar format, so here I am.
VIN is CE140Z144440 model # is CE10934, and it has all this on the glovebox door: BX2, C60, F59, JM1, L47, NA9, U63, V46, Z62, 600, A11, B85, F51, G50, J70, M49, N40, V43, Z53, 526 Does the rear axle have a tag as to the ratio? It is a 12 bolt, what were the common ratios? Any other info is great, Thanks Joe |

Welcome from another Californian but you used the f-word a little too much up there. haha. you would be very lucky to find the tag still on your rearend but other guys will chime in and help you with all the questions you have. we all love pics here too, can never have too many.

Re: New to Chevy's, just bought a 1970 C10
First off welcome, I'm assuming because you say 400 and have L47 listed your truck is a big block (no small block 400's offered in this trucks, too early). All 2wd 1/2 ton BB trucks came with 3.08's, and all the 1/2 tons have 12 bolts also.
Post up some pics when you can, sounds like a great truck. We won't give you too a hard time on the Ford thing, there are a few blue oval trucks I like myself.

Re: New to Chevy's, just bought a 1970 C10
Thanks Gents! 3.08's!! I thought they felt pretty tall, seems to be almost loafing at 60mph. And I did start driving on a 1956 Apache100, 3 on the tree, it was the first full size engine I rebuilt, the 235 inline 6, I didn't talk to my dad for almost a month after he sold it to our neighbor/my boss, but years later, and 2 frame offs he has done to it, I understand that he had the ability and MONEY to take care of it then and now, me as a kid would have run the wheels off probly!
Yep, not trying to use the f-bomb to much here , but want to give somewhat of a background of experience and mechanical abilities, I am not prejudiced to any old truck, and as my Dad said years ago, I'd rather drive anything than have to push the SoB! I Love old trucks and cars, and appreciate all old iron, but I prefer trucks. I do all the work on my old trucks, and USUALLY enjoy it, dropping fuel tanks,,, not so much. Thanks Again, and hopefully I can take some pictures Sunday, it is supposed to be nice! Joe

And there's a reason why I'm feelin' so high because we have another 1970 C10 owner in the fold. Sounds like you have a very nice truck with loads of options. Is it a CST truck? With all those options it might be. Oh by the way... and from Ohio!!!

On your rear axel tube, RHS, facing forward, inboard of the shock mount you should see a three letter code. Some time ago I found a website with those codes and what ratio the factory put in for that code. Sorry I don't remember that link any more. I had it in my favorites two or three hard drive crashes ago.
