Shoulder Harness Ticket

I posted this on the parts board but thought I should post over here as well. My son got a ticket for no shoulder harness in his '77 C10. Wondering if these trucks had them as stock items in '77?

Thanks.

My 73 nova had them, and my 78 blazer has them. Was it a citation or a fix it ticket?

I suspect it was a fix it ticket...I will check and see. The PO must have removed them and installed Simpson lap belts. He also got a "fix it" for one tire...slow day at the Krispy Kreme, I guess...LOL!

I don't think they were standard equipment in trucks until fairly late. Could be later than 77.

Easy way to tell would be to find the first year that shoulder belts weren't an option.

All the cabs has the provision for them because it was one of those things they had to be in compliance with by X year. I "THINK" is was 80 were they came standard, but I have seen some with them before that. My 78 Burb Didn't have them and my 78 Jimmy HAS them.

get a used set out of a junkyard meanwhile check with the dealer or the factory to get the info whether it came with it or not

My 78 has the shoulder belts, and my blazer has lap belts, but it's a full top.
A friend of mine had a 76 with lap belts, I think Bob has the best idea, and it's worth the time to fight the ticket... Good luck.

I checked with the state patrol here in washington.

since I drive a 70 & 72 trucks, inquiring on the belts.

They state they try to know if the older vehicles had them.

some of the early pre 70 burbs had them, but the trucks didn't.

the way the washington laws are written is the way they look at it.

Look under the RCW numbers and see how they are worded.

I think it boils down to that 73-75 Blazers (I had a 74) had a fully removable top. There was no way to attach the shoulder belts to this. Now in 76 (I think) the blazers were partially removable which gave shoulder belts a place to anchor.

Thanks for the info. Where are they mounted? On teh 73+ with the newer body style I couldn't see a place for it.

don't pay that ticket. not all trucks had shoulder belts, only optional until 79 or 80, i believe. (not 100%). some of the earlier cabs don't even have the mounting holes for the shoulder anyway. if your 77 has the holes, might as well get that fixed. they can't PROVE you took them out, all they can do is tell you to have it fixed. after all, you haven't been the sole owner since 77.

oh, if you do have to go to court, you can defend yourself based on the fact that the police man was not a Chevrolet engineer and thus has no legal technical background to say whether or not the truck was supposed to have the shoulder strap. his opinion is not fact and sure as hell not law. his ticket is therefore not based on law or fact, so it's worthless.

good luck!!!!

Customchevys right if your cab doesnt have a bolt hole for shoulder belts then it didnt come with them but if it does you will have to pick a set up. My 78 c-10 custom deluxe has shoulder belts they came factory that way.
