Re: anyone running a/c
Many years ago I installed the Old Air Products custom fit Hurricane system in my truck, and it was such a dreadful experience I ultimately tore it out and threw it away. The custom hard lines, firewall interface, etc all fit perfectly so installation was a breeze.
http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalo...oducts_id=4357 Unfortunately it had 4 major issues I never could resolve. 1. The plastic housing that holds the diverter valve for floor or defrost selection always had a catch in it, and would hang up hard enough to break the lever on the dashboard. Eventually I put a choke cable on it instead, and pulled the T-handle off the cable. After that I had to preset the valve with a wrench before driving, which was inconvenient to say the least. 2. Twice the fan motor burned up filling the cab with smoke. In support of Old Air, they had fantastic customer service and sent me out a new motor when the first one fried. When the second one toasted I didn't want a 3rd, and went shopping and installed a Fiero heater motor instead, which solved the melting motor problem. 3. The heater was completely inadequate for the climate where I live. In sub zero temps the cab would never warm up, not even enough to clear the windshield. Anything below freezing, I just had to dress in multiple layers and leave the vent window open so I could see out the windshield. This was my daily driver (36 miles each way), which was somewhat of a problem. I'm not sure any of the competitive brands would do much better in the heating department, since the heater core in these street rod A/C systems is really small and are more suitable for California winters. 4. The issue that did me in however was the constant howling/screeching sound coming from the compressor whenever the engine reached about 2500 rpms. Over 3 seasons I took it to various local A/C shops for repair. After $100+ each time to recharge/lube, etc - they could find nothing wrong with it and the noise continued. Eventually I just found the racket more embarrasing and annoying than the benefit of having A/C. I tossed the whole monster in the garbage since I didn't want to resell the problems to someone else. If I were ever going to install A/C in my truck again, I'd probably go with Vintage Air Mark IV under dash unit and keep the factory heater for winter driving. Others may love the Old Air Hurricane system, but these were my experiences for what they're worth. http://www.vintageair.com/catalog09/...talog%2022.pdf |

Try nostalgicairparts.com if you can make it to a show that they will be at they might make you an awesome deal. We were at Moultri swap meet in Georgia last November and they had a great deal in my opinion. I can't remember the price they made for sdailey, but it was hard for him to pass up.

Re: anyone running a/c
I have Old Air Products and it work famously. The only thing I dont care for is no floor heat, only vent heat/air
