dash question?

I hope it is ok to post in here! I bought a 68 chevy c20 for my first build!
first question........ Whats the best way to remove the dash as to get at the firewall? I have it unbolted but seem to be stuck on the pinch weld at the window joint! I have removed the cab and front clip the rest is going to the crusher! I have a few donor trucks as well one is a short bed frame and one is a long bed. I am looking to build this truck as a slammed and bagged short bed. looking at a porterbuilt setup all around. It has a straight 6 right now and i am really digging the inline 6 for now. Has any body ran a 6 backed by a turbo 350 and a 10 or 12 bolt rearend? I am new to this stuff so please understand my ignorance! The plan is to build this truck so my son will have a bad ride to school! This will be a complete frame off resto and completely modified truck!

Re: dash question?

welcome to the board. You will have to drill the spotwelds to remove dash panel.

Re: dash question?

Just as John has stated, there are many spot welds throughout the windshield/dash channel and will have to be drilled out to get the dashboard out of the truck. Trevor

Re: dash question?

I always take a reciprocating saw or cut off wheel to it. Either cut inside the pinch weld on the dash or cut outside the pinch weld on the windshield frame.

By the way, WELCOME!

Re: dash question?

Why do you want to get the dash out?If you want the front panel where the instrument cluster goes you can cut the slotted area under the dash pad and weld back in there also. It's covered by the dash pad and will never be seen.
