Anyone have pics of 275/60R15 tire on 15x8" wheel

Looking for a pic of this setup, specifically how much the tire will bulge out from the wheel.

Brad, I run 275/60 on 8 inch wheels on the back of every truck I have ever built. Let me post some pictures...

more in next post...

Re: Anyone have pics of 275/60R15 tire on 15x8" wheel

Again, all of these trucks I used 8 inch wheels and 275/60 in the pictures...

All of these trucks used 71-72 rearends or 73-87 rearends and none of them, not one, rubbed anywhere at any time.

Re: Anyone have pics of 275/60R15 tire on 15x8" wheel

Cool, thanks. I'm not worried about rubbing at all. Just wondering what it looks like since I normally run a 10" wheel in back, but found a killer local deal on 4-8" wide wheels. Based on Clos69 pic it looks like the tire protrudes quite a bit from the wheel, but TxFirefighter it's hard to tell from your pics. Have you got any close up shots of that setup TxFF?

Brad, give me a minute or two. I'm going to go out to my shop and get you some good pics of my 275s on 8 inch wheels.

Dayum! I like that alot. The smoothies especially. What would I need to look for txfirfighter as far as backspacing goes. Truck is a 72 swb with 3 in bell tech spindles and stock springs on the front and 5 inch drop springs on the back.

Nice!

Okay, the rear wheels are 4.25 inch backspace on an 8 inch wide wheel. No rubbing issues in any manner on a 72 truck.

Now, for the front, you have one concern. Your 3 inch drop spindles will cause an 8 inch wide 15 inch wheel with normal 4.25 backspacing to rub the lower control arm pretty bad. That's why 2.5 inch spindles are industry standard. Nothing wrong with 3 inch spindles, I have run them multiple times myself, you just have to plan ahead a bit. What you need to run in the front is a 7 inch wide wheel with about 3.5 inch of backspace. Been there and done that, and these words come from first hand experience. The narrower wheel in the front is welcome anyway since, if you look closely at your truck, you'll notice the Belltech spindles have widened the front track width to be wider than the rear track. An inch narrower wheel in the front will hide the wider track width from the spindles.

I use to have that size on my 81, but I bought wider rimes and went with 295's.

There used to be a thread that had a ton of tire and wheel pics. I couldn't find it. But it looks like Tx Firefighter came through big time...he really knows how to put together a truck!

Re: Anyone have pics of 275/60R15 tire on 15x8" wheel

Good advice and that's what I've come up with for numbers exactly. In your opinion, would a 17, 18 combo work better?

I like a more level look, 1 inch rake with tire size doing the rake. Suggestions?

Re: Anyone have pics of 275/60R15 tire on 15x8" wheel

I like a rubber rake too so I usually run 235/60s in front and 275/60 in the rear. I've had a few trucks here and there with 17 inch wheels and they are great, but mainly you start to struggle with finding proper tire sizes in the larger diameter wheel sizes unless you don't mind running 40 or 45 profile tire sizes. When I ran 17 inch wheels, I bent several when running 45 series tires so I don't care to go less than a 50 series now.
