BTW: "Who are you supposed to be, the Undertaker?" "Well, I may be undertakin' a situation right now." That show is awesome. Episode two is chillin' on the DVR right now. |

It's a great show! I still have to watch #2 also. I just hope they keep it going, don't let it die down...I needed a show like that. Countless "Holy Crap!" moments. And even more good lines.

Re: '77 3+3 C30 Dually - "The "Sled"
Went at it again today...
Figured stripping the front clip, motor, trans and harness was the hard part, so I may as well strip the rest and paint the frame. Had to lift up on the bed some to disconnect the fuel fill lines- Rolled the frame out of the way- Picked up a few inexpensive mini-furniture dollies from Harbor Freight. They work great for this application- |

Don't you hate when you take a semi-big project and turn it in to a really big project.....But the payoff is worth it.

Re: '77 3+3 C30 Dually - "The "Sled"
The block and crank are at the machine shop. I need to pick up my intake and cam so we can start putting it back together when the block is ready. I'm having a heck of a time finding some decent, CA-legal headers for this thing. Had a line on a couple of sets of Thorleys on Craigslist a while back, but I waited to long.
Now that the motor is making some headway, I need to get serious about getting the frame and cab painted. The plan right now is to paint the frame, drop in the motor and trans, plumb it in, then set the painted cab back down on it. And I still haven't decided on a color... Re: '77 3+3 C30 Dually - "The "Sled"
Bad news. The block is trash. Gonna have to find another.
In light of this, I was kicking around the idea of doing a 6BT/NV4500 swap, but upon further consideration, I think I'm going to stick with the 454. However, I would like to move forward with the NV4500. Any advice from the experienced? |

Re: '77 3+3 C30 Dually - "The "Sled"
Quick update, but it’s nothing Earth shattering or particularly pic worthy to share. Haven’t really done much at all during the Summer. Looking to get back on it as the weather cools a bit.
Like I said...sent the engine and heads out to get sham-wow’d. Tore the block down, discovered it had already been punched out .060 over at some point in the past and the cylinder walls were pretty much shot. So...I scored an O.E. short block pulled out of a burnt up motorhome with about 60k miles on the clock. Pretty jazzed about that. It’s been sitting a while so the guys in the shop are gonna tear it down and freshen her up, but at least I know it’s low mileage. There are also some suspicions about my heads being bad as well, but nothing has been confirmed yet. I have a sneaky suspicion I’m going to be in the market for a decent set of 049’s. Tranny is sitting on my bench waiting to be carried into the trans shop. I keep waffling on rebuilding the TH400 or swapping to a NV4500. Almost certain I’m going to stick w/ the 400. Way less work and unless someone drops a 4500 in my lap (ouch), way lest cost. The frame is sitting on the side of my house ready to be stripped and painted. The cab is sitting in front of my garage (much to the Wife's dismay). That bish is heavy, so I need to bring a skid steer home from work so I can lift and set it back down on the frame after I paint it. Bed is in the garage awaiting some minor body work (filling holes, tailgate flip, etc.) and that’ll be ready for paint. Same thing with the donor front end and doors off the parts truck. Just need a little bit of body work and paint. Haven’t settled 100% on a color yet, but I’m reasonably certain it’ll be some shade of blue. The plan is the get it painted, assembled and running, find a set of 16” aluminums, tint the windows (so you can’t see inside, LOL) and get it back on the road. I’ll finish the interior as time/money allow. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. Like I said, nothing major, but yes, I still have it and I’m slowly plugging away. As always, I’ll post pics when things get exciting. After this, the Suburban is next in line... |

While you have it apart, maybe a 4L80E may be the way to go.

Re: '77 3+3 C30 Dually - "The "Sled"
Jason,
You can use the ECM/harness from a 91 454SS, or any R/V 1Ton with a 4L80E, just need the BBC chip for the 454. I have seen discussions on using P-series diesel TCU but you will need a TPS for sure. Other options: http://www.powertraincontrolsolution...impleshift.php http://www.becontrols.com/products/products.htm This is an info post on putting a 4L80E using a carb and the above Bauman Electronics: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...?topic=12774.0

Man, I like this thread and really dig the look of the truck. Good luck. I'm chipping away at mine as well. Also love to fantasize about a part of SoCal where you can own three trucks, dissasemble one and not have it all happen in the alley behind your house... Keep up the good work dude!
