Factory color UNDER our fenders
What was the factory color under our fenders? Was it just flat black with a little overspray?

Re: Factory color UNDER our fenders
the inside of the fenders were painted body color, but not a showroom finish more like hit or miss or lightly sprayed.the inside of the inner fenders were painted semi gloss black.the floorboard you can see from the fender well was painted body color with some black undercoating sprayed on.the back side of the grille panel was body color with undercoating sprayed on also.the radiator support was also semi gloss black.hope i answered your question.

Re: Factory color UNDER our fenders
thanks lilred,i am by no means an expert on any subject.but i have always loved the 64-66 trucks and have owned several through the years.i have always leaned to the stock side of these trucks or lightly modified.sorry to say i do not own a good one at the present have had close to 10 of them.i only have a cab and frame at the present time.don't know if i will get another one or not.they are getting hard to find in my area and everyone wants a arm and leg for a rust bucket around here.but have always preferred stock original trucks and i have studied them since the late 70's when i was a kid.i use to buy short fleet side trucks in running condition for $500-$700,but those days are about gone where i live.

Re: Factory color UNDER our fenders
I was considering just hitting the undersides with base coat, but I suppose I would need a little clear to seal the paint....any thoughts?

Re: Factory color UNDER our fenders
When I painted my fenders, I shot the underside with color and then used the clear chipguard spray from SEM to protect the paint from rocks. It dries with a pebbled texture but looks pretty good. It has held up real well. Here's a link: http://semproducts.com/Catalog.asp?prod=143
