Re: Failed Inspection

Sounds like it's running rich at idle, too much HydroCarbons (gasoline) out the exhaust. Do you have a catalytic converter on there?

Re: Failed Inspection

When was the last time you did a tune up? When was the last time your idle screws were adjusted? What was the results from last time?

Re: Failed Inspection

if you know how to lean it out a bit you can reduce your HC's that away... but if you lean it out too much you will raise combustion temps and that will raise NOx.... too much of that and you'll fail.

Re: Failed Inspection

Run a can of Seafoam through it. Once it's all burned up, take for a spin. Open it up a little. Get all the loose carbon out. The cat should be really hot when tested. Check EGR operation. What year and engine?

Re: Failed Inspection

If you dont want to spend alot of money then, pour in some denatured alcohol, about two cups per gallon and you should pass no problem just make sure you fill the tank up afterward to dillute the alcohol thats left. My motorcycle did the same thing wouldnt pass the idle test, so I had about two gallons of gas and put two cups of alcohol in the tank about a mile away from the test station and it passed with flying colors, then went and filled up the tank and no problems. It dropped my readings in half!!!!
