What's this in my yard? Hey who put a garage here?

Seriously, I've been planning on having a garage built for a while now, my initial plans were more than my checkbook could handle. So far we have, a 25x25 with 10 foot walls, 16 foot door, I finished the floor and put the pegboard and other stuff on the walls, anyway, here's where I am right now:

Walking out my side door, the Buick is just ITCHING to quit baking in the Alabama sun finally:

Lowe's loves me, this is a Kobalt rolling tool box that's been sitting in my living room for months now (sorry honey), and lots of Gladiator Garageworks stuff:

I priced all sorts of wall boards and the pre-colored white pegboard was $16 a sheet, **** painting something else for $16 a sheet, I'm sold:

Did I mention how that Gladiator stuff from Whirlpool (sold at Lowes and just about anywhere else, northerntool.com for instance) is pimptastic? I need about 14 more 4 foot strips of this stuff, about 6 more sheets of peg board, some wiring and lights, a 4 post and 2 post lift and I might be about done!:

Give it up fat boy, I'm coming in, like it or not:

At least my fun cars are out of the elements, too bad the old work horse doesn't get the same love:

So how was your weekend?

One of the first projects is replacing that damned Powermaster brake system on the GN, It's started acting up and I nearly rear ended someone at a stop light the other day. Before I pay $500-600 for a rebuilt powermaster master cylinder, I'll pay $200 (or less) for a full swap kit, including pedal, master cylinder, and proportioning valve and some fittings, and convert it to good old tried and true vacuum brakes and master cylinder, the only problem, someone like me, who knows not much about this stuff, can take several days to finish the job.

Can't do that if you're wrenching in a driveway, now that I have a garage, no problem, time to order that kit!

The raw garage, was $11750.

The wall boards, Gladiator stuff, floor covering, was about $2K

It still needs wiring and lights, some more wall covering/etc so I'm not done, but the raw garage was $11750.

Gary, I don't want to hijack this thread with GN talk, but I may pm you in the future about them. I have been looking for a while and I need to talk with someone with 3.8SFI experience!

You're telling me! It's funny how you call people for a quote they never show up, or they show up and give you an obvious "yeah I really don't feel like this" quote. Finally got someone who wanted to build it and gave what I thought was a fair quote ($11250 + $500 for the blockwork).

Needs electric service and for me to finish the walls, then it's time to rock it.

As for the big green truck (and my blue truck) I'm going to have a big 3 car carport built on the right hand side and a 1 car built on the left hand side of the garage and a couple loads of gravel brought out so I'll have covered, if not enclosed, storage for them too.

I'm pretty sure you can't put a vac booster on that turbo car.
back on topic, that's a pretty sweet shop you built there.

Believe it or not it's a common swap,

http://www.gbodyparts.com/product_in...393ee393650d4f

There's a full kit, brand new for this swap, you can go used and junkyard crawl your own pedal and get out for $100 or less in parts and "if you know what you're doing" (I don't) 2 hours work, so I figured 2 weekends of busted knuckles and wallowing around under the dash like a love starved walrus and I'll be done.

This is my absolute first project as my factory powermaster is no longer reliable in the Buick and it almost got me into an accident a few weeks ago when I parked her.

Nice new shop. I am thinking about expanding my garage space next year - I have been doing some checking on local ordinances, etc.

Congrats!

Re: What's this in my yard? Hey who put a garage here?

So the first project to happen in the garage, turns out wasn't my GN's brakes. My shower faucet broke and thanks to no access panel it was pull out the whole shower unit or go in from the other side.

I went in from the other side.

Turns out my walls are infested with vermin.

Believe it or don't, it doesn't leak.

No more drippy shower head.

So what about that big hole in my dining room.

This is where the garage comes in.

Let's stain and polyurethane some pine wall boards "pecan":

And how about the stupidly expensive trim bits, let's do those "cherrywood":

Will polyurethane them all up Saturday, finish staining tomorrow, then hang it all Sunday. Yay for garages.

Re: What's this in my yard? Hey who put a garage here?

Hahaha so stupid. "Hang it all Sunday". Here it is Thursday night I just finished the damned wall today.

Ok more pictures!

A ladder makes an amazing drying rack!

The first few boards go up on Sunday as planned, looking ok so far!

Our poor dining room in disarray, it stayed like that ALL week till tonight!

More progress through this week, check out my grade-A plumbing!

More on next post (ten image limit BAH!)

Re: What's this in my yard? Hey who put a garage here?

And tonight the wall is done!

With flash

Another wall pic

This is my proudest moment, I took my measurements for this puzzle piece, walked outside to the garage, cut it, came in and it fit. So then I nailed it in place and DID NOT SPLIT IT! I was so proud.

Nothing in this house is square I've realized, nor straight, nor level, so you have to fudge EVERYTHING to get it to fit right.

There was no way in HELL I was cutting up that $26 piece of oak baseboard to accomodate the STUPIDLY PLACED outlet in the wall. Seriously what kind of moron puts a plug THIS CLOSE to the floor? (German rocket scientists that's who, yes, a German rocket scientist built my house)

And what does my wife say? "The rest of the dining room looks so shabby compared to the new wall".

Oh boy!

And now, time to swap the brakes on my Buick!

Re: What's this in my yard? Hey who put a garage here?

Once you dig into a project like that everything else in the room needs updated too. I just bought a new sink and faucet for the kitchen and now she wants a new oven and cooktop. Oh boy!

Looks great!

It was from Lowes, forget the brand but it was the least expensive of the roll on garage floor coverings they sold. I want to say it was a Rustoleum brand but I'm not sure.
