Headliner install in a c-10 custom??
I have a headliner I got from LMC. Has anyone installed one in a cab that did not have one from the factory. The chrome trim has some square holders that will require "squareish" holes. How did you install yours? Any ideas on how to do it?

We installed one without the chrome & it looked really clean & sharp. Stick it up there with duct tape or magnets & take a look - the chrome adds some to the looks, but it's fine without it!

Re: Headliner install in a c-10 custom??
All you need is a 3/8s drill ,the right size bit and the measurements or a template .I have done several. The first one I did I just took a thin piece of cardboard and used a razor knife to cut out a hole the same as in a junk cheyenne cab.I marked where the center of each hole was and then placed the card board over it and shot with spray paint. The holes are rectangular with rounded ends.I drilled each end first then drilled as close as I could to each previous hole until I got to the other end.I used as small flat file to knock off the little humps in between each drilled hole. These days I have and inner roof skin from and old truck cut out that i use as a template.saves a lot of time measuring. It was a slow process measuring each hole.

The cut off wheel will be a little faster but the drill will do a lot neater job and not sling hot metal sparks everywhere.

I just screwed mine on with stainless flat head screws and #10 chrome finishing washers. Not OEM but looks great anyway.

Re: Headliner install in a c-10 custom??
if you do any drilling/cutting, you need to know, there is less than 1/4 inch betweeen the inner and outer sheet metal towards the front of the cab.
The previouse owner of one of my old trucks just took a drill with a phillips bit, and drove the secrews through the top of my cab. It held the headliner in place... but the screws were sticking out the roof and gave a LOT of people somethig to laugh at. I installed a headliner in my longhorn, a base model C/30. All I did was spread 1/2 a tube of liquid nails on the back of the headliner, and stick it on. I used some 2X4s on the seat to hold some 2X2s that went left to right up againt the headliner. Left it like this overnight. 5 years later, and I still KNOW that headliner will never come off without a fight. The chrome trim looks nice, but in all reality, it'll fade over the years and look bad. |
