Greetings All. I have been a member for a little while, but this is my first post. I have a 69 2WD, 350 (bored .030) Longbed C-10 that I have been throwing more money than I probably should have. I have rebuilt my engine thinking that the rebuild would have solved many of my problems, but, oh, has Pandora's Box she has been. I basically have been chasing an oil leak for 6 months and after a rebuild later, I'm still leaking oil! What eats at me the most is that this is the first truck where I have not cut any corners. I've spent the money for good parts and used no baling wire! I have been a weekend away from having her road ready for a couple months now, yippee! I love my truck, but she is not giving me any love back (so far). Please tell me that I am not the only one!!!!!!!! Thanks for letting me vent. I am almost at peace now.

Welcome. Hope you get it figured out. Can you tell where it's coming from? Have you replaced the distributor seal?

I have. The problem is that I have to replace the intake manifold gaskets, again. During the rebuild, I didn't replace the intake manifold. After replacing the gaskets,the first time, I injured my back. I then paid a machanic to replace them the second time. After I got my money back (he did a terrible job, my oil looked like cappuccino). I did it myself a few weeks later and after it was still leaking, I looked at the manifold. It was warped. Anyhow, the rubber gasket is slipping, and needs to replaced for a 4th, or 5th time (I lost count).

No rubber gaskets on the manifolds..... Thats a no-no, 1/4 '' bead of the rtv is what to do. No oil or vaccume leaks.

Good luck on your search for the oil leak.
I have been chasing a leak from the 454 we just rebuilt and put it in my '71 C-10. At first I thought it was an oil leak, but as I checked things out I found a few anti-freeze leaks on the upper part of the engine that was running down and also a power steering suction hose leak. I have those leaks fixed now, but there is still a slight oil leak I am trying to chase down. It seems everytime I fix one problem I find another. Today I noticed that the fuel pump suction hose was partially colapsed and the temperature sending unit wire was real close to the header. I will fix these problems soon, but I figure something else will pop up. What the heck that is truckin. Danny

Thanks for the advise. It feels good knowing that there are others on the island with me. I think my wife is the most frustrated. I keep coming to her needing new parts and she isn't seeing results fast enough. Oh well.

Welcome to the board! I don't know this ugly corner of Alabama you speak of. This is Alabama the Beautiful, well except Lee County, and that's really part of Georgia anyway!

Welcome from b'ham. Btw are you using an aluminum intake? If so make sure you get a gasket that don't have the steel core as it is for the iron manifolds not aluminum.

I recommend a product called the right stuff avail at napa way better than rtv for end seals and you can also make valve cover gaskets with it and it actually works no leaks

I'm sorry man. I really have nothing against Georgia. Its just that most of the country thinks Auburn is in Georgia anyway, and if I were appointed King for a day of Alabama, this would be our new map!

Not really. Who can honestly respect a paper champ? I wouldn't accept a hollow championship, but these people are making a statue. My Horns earned it in '06.
