Putting the truck to work...and gear/trans question!

Quick shot of me putting the ole' truck to work...hauling a 63 caddy carcass.

The truck is bone stock with 350/350 and 3.07 gears.
How hard is it to swap to 3.73's?
Also might be interested in a 700r4 swap, is this pretty simple or require alot of mods?

Thanks

Bryan

The gears aren't too hard, depends on how greasy you feel like getting. You might look around for somebody w/ a 3.73 truck who wants to trade you rear axles. For instance, if you lived in Ohio I would entertain the idea haha.

Re: Putting the truck to work...and gear/trans question!

What is involved in changing gears? I've never done it obviously. Is it just a center section replacement or pull both axles out as well? I'm guessing the latter...but...

Re: Putting the truck to work...and gear/trans question!

it's a very delicate precise job requireing some special tools// factory service manuals have step by step instructions aaas well as the tool list//factory service manuals are available thru most board vendoes very cheaply priced for nice reprinted books

if you dont do it right the first time you can trash about $500 worth of parts

There's fewer moving parts in a diff than in your lawn mower and it isn't hard to set one up correctly, but it has to be done carefully. First one I did took all day. Now I can disassemble, set one up and re-assemble it in about 2 hours. The GM factory Service manual for your model year will show you how to do it. The manual covers C-10 through C-50 and covers the two speed axle as well as the conventional diff. The manuals are available on e-bay
and several automotive bookstores for 20-30 bucks and is well worth the investment.

This is a GM pub, not a Chilton's, Haynes or any other aftermarket crap and looks like this:
