1990 suburban donor

Going tonight to look and most likely buy a 1990, 1/2 ton burb. What can I pull off of it to use on my 65 swb stepper?

I currently have a 230, 3 on the tree and drum brakes all around.
Also I am a novice so simpler the better. thanks

Front disc brake setup. Power steering box and all tie rods...engine and trans, rearend to complete 5 lug change over....interior bucket seats if available. Possible gastank...The uses are huge

Thanks for the info. Do you think the steering column will fit? Since I will be going automatic for the trans.

Also is the rear end an easy swap?

Re: 1990 suburban donor

Column won't fit very well. The Suburban is going to have the ignition key, wiper control, and dimmer switch all on the column which your truck does not.

I second what lo72 said about the many parts. You can do a whole front crossmember swap to get all the disc brakes, sway bar, power steering, everything.

The rearend swap is slightly involved. Assuming you have a coil spring rear suspension, you will need to remove the spring pads from the Suburban and weld the proper ones in their place. You will also need to buy a super track bar setup from ECE or CPP for about 100 odd dollars.

Be sure and remove the entire engine wiring harness from the Suburban along with fuel lines, tank, and computer under the dash. That stuff is worth good bucks to 73-86 guys to convert their truck to EFI.

Thanks TX. I am going to look at an '86 tomorrow. Same parts are interchangeable right?

Also, the '90 was up the road from you in Boyd.

I know the one you are talking about. I've been seeing it on Craigslist.

Re: 1990 suburban donor

The front end is worth a bit if it is in good shape, usually. That will help you make a little but back. If you are looking to get rid of the 6 and 3 on the tree, the 350 and 700R4 combo is not a bad way to go, either.

Re: 1990 suburban donor

thanks Jonboy. That is the way that I am leaning. The engine looks way more complicated than I am comfortable with. I took off the air filter and got scared. lol.
