2/4 or 3/5 drop
guys i need some advice. I have some money to purchase a drop kit (only springs), but I don't know what amount to go with. I have a 68 2WD stepside with 235/70/15 in the front and 275/60/15 in the rear. I know it would be better to run spindles but I would rather lower it now and change spindles in the future then drive it stock for longer. What are some issues with going a 3/5 drop? Which would you guys recommend? I will never haul anything with it, I just take it to shows. Thanks

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
For a spring only drop, general consensus is 2/4 is the way to go. Any lower in the front and you are going to get into front end geometry issues.

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
My opinion, since I've been there and done that as far as just doing what I can afford......it's not really worth it.
Think about what you want out of your truck, and wait until you have the funds to do it. There is really no sense compromising for a slightly better stance now if you know it isn't what you are going to want later. I dropped my truck like 5 years ago, not sure exactly what the springs were rated as from the factory (bought from a small shop that had them sitting around unpackaged from a customer that never picked them up), but I measured the actual drop to have been about 2/3. I knew before hand that the drop wasn't going to be quite what I wanted, but the price was right so I went for it anyway. Here I am 5 years later, just purchased a 5" rear drop kit, and planning on getting drop spindles. I should have done it right the first time and got the adjustable panhard bar, shock relocators, drop shocks, ect.....the ride wasn't that great. It worked out ok, I found somebody close to home that was looking for rear coils so I am recouping some of the cost quickly. I'm sure most guys who go the route I did just end up re-doing things a few years later....and if you search you will find a lot of stories like this.

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
Since you're never going to haul anything,go 3/5 all the way. If you don't,later on you'll wish you did.

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
I did the 3-5 with only springs on my last truck, lost all suspension travel in the front (bottomed out) and the shop had a hard time alining the front end. got the whole kit with spindles this time and the ride is great!! but i understand the $$$ issue.

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
I agree with Nova Cobra. Do it right the first time and be done. If you want a 3/5, then do a 3/5. It's more money, but in the end, you'll be happier and you'll never look back and worry about the money you spent. Trust me, I know.
Here's an inspiriation photo. This is with a 3.5/5 drop and 15" tire/wheel combo. I have 17's now though.

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
It's a tough call but only you can make the call. How long will it take for you to save the extra $$$ to do the 3/5" drop? What is your end goal? Will you do all the work required to drop your truck? If not than more $$$ will be required. Best wishes in your decision.

Re: 2/4 or 3/5 drop
After being on this board for 2 or 3 years and reading 100's of threads and looking at 100's of pics of drops I decided I wanted the 3 1/2frt 5 rr drop for my truck, using spindles, shock relocators, adjustible panhard bar etc. I've had most of the money saved for it a couple of times now and something came up ( non truck related ) and used the money for that purpose, so I'm still waiting. I guess my point is like already been stated, do it once and do it right, cause trust me, I've been playin' with old vehicles for 30+ years and the cheaspest way is not the right or best way and usually come back to bite you in the a**.
