Show me your 4-6 drop!

We're getting ready to install a new McGaughys 4-6 on our '87. I wanted to see some of what you guys have done and if you could also list what size tires you're running.

Re: Show me your 4-6 drop!

okay, it started with a 4-6 with stock wheels. Then the back was too high, then the front was too high, then the wheels didn't fit anymore. Now it's a 5-7 with 17x8 255 50 15's. Needs a little more in the back.

Re: Show me your 4-6 drop!

Here is my '79, 2.5" spindle with a full coil cut in the front, and a flip kit in the rear. Wheels are stock rally wheels, 215/70 on 6.5's in the front, 255/70 on 8's in the rear. My truck does have the HD leaves in the rear, and ride quality has improved since lowering it.

Factory wheels
LR60-15 tires
estimated 4/6 drop (the rear was really high when I got it).

I am not 100% sure on the length, but I think they are 56" springs. I was not going to have to trim the bed to run shackles. They have 8 leafs per side. I thought the truck rode horrible at stock height, and it rides a ton better now that it's lowered. I am very pleased with the looks and the ride. Now I just have to figure out what to do to it next!

Re: Show me your 4-6 drop!

damn i believe mine are the shorter leafs then because i did have to notch my bed for the shackles. Anyone know if they have the HD leafs in the shorter length leafs. Would like to have a full pack of leafs like that and the truck ride like its on a cloud

Re: Show me your 4-6 drop!

You could always get the longer springs and move your hangers back. The length might affect the ride some, but I doubt that it will be noticable. You can still tell my truck is a truck, but it was horrible before. The only thing I would do differently is get a new pair of springs, and cut them. There is a little difference inheight from side to side, but it doesn't bother me enough right now. If I get serious and decide to change out the cab and fix everything, I will handle it then.

They should. Tackle your mailman when you see him. I sent them in an Amazon.com box to throw everyone off....

I have been thinking my truck needs to be a crew cab now. I found a pretty cheap donor, and it would be about as easy to fix my cab right and paint the truck as it would be to do a crew cab short bed. I really need to quit looking at the internet so much.

Re: Show me your 4-6 drop!

I would have to agree with ^^^ I think you will regret it in the long run... yours is a classic now and will always be a "classic". Personally I like the crewcab S/B... but "I" think its just another custom thing for today... I wouldn't tear yours up to make one. I would leave it is... and maybe stay off the Internet till you think about it longer! lol It's your call in the end buddy... BUT again your truck is A1 as it sits.

BTW: Shackles are here... gotta go get busy!

Re: Show me your 4-6 drop!

A little more drop than you asked for but...

My Dad's truck is down 6/8 (3" springs, 3" spindles & flip kit and 2" hanger) with 255/50/17's front & 275/50/17's rear
