Rear end swap question

I recently pulled a 10 bolt rear end from my 86 IROC... it has 3.73 and Auburn Pro posi in it. Id really like to swap this into my 68 C10 so that I get the 3.73's and 5 lug. Will this rear end swap in? Anything special I need to do.. Im wondering how the truck arms will mount. My 68 is a coil spring setup.

Thanks!

How does it compare in width to the one in your truck? As far as the brakets go I saw a link on the board here for the weld on brakets to be able to convert a different rearend to fit in our trucks. I didn't save the web address though.

Chevyduty and others sell kits to install non-coil spring rearends in our trucks. Is it wide enough? The rear end is a five bolt pattern but it is 5 on 4 3/4 and our trucks are 5 on 5 so you would need to have your front rotors redrilled to have the same pattern all the way around. Good luck

86 iroc rear end

the bolt pattern is a 4 3/4 vs a 5.0 , but it is also a 7.5 ring gear most likely unless you stepped up to a aftermarket rear axle. what im trying to say is that you are going to a weaker rear axle . true the auburn posi is a good posi, but youre still using a small axle and it has the 4 3/4 bolt pattern. so it really comes down to how much are you willing to modify to make it work. plus the truck is heavier than the camaro it came from and that will affect the life span if you run the truck hard especially.....hope this helps and good luck.

I used spindles and everything mounted form the truck on the front end. The iroc is 320hp, 410 torque at rear wheels. Yes the 10 bolt is suspect but this one has proven strong for me so far. My truck isnt as strong as the car. Im not concerned about tearing up the 10 bolt, rather jsut if I can get it in.

Ill check the bolt pattern this weekend and see.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Here is a link to the thread I had started a couple of weeks ago. This might be the one Roberty is thinking of too.

http://64.246.42.114/vboard/showthre...threadid=52681

I have an 86 Sub that I'm pulling the rear axle out of. I knew there was new brackets available and someone on here knew about them too. But one member said I can just switch the axle shafts. I'm not sure of that yet. I think the Sub axle is longer.

I HAVE to get my wife's kitchen done before I can go work on the truck. Then I hope to get some progress pics on it.
Later
Mike
