Question Edelbrock Performer Series for 350

I am looking at upgrading my intake and carb next. I never had any problems with Edelbrock in the past. It has been years since I put these on my Nova, but I am guessing at:

Non-EGR, Manual Choke on carb

non-egr on intake?

Anyone think this looks good, or offer some advice?

I would get the electric choke model 600. Set that thing up and drive the wheels off and don't worry about it. Jim

Re: Edelbrock Performer Series for 350

I currently run a #1406 on my 327.... it runs strong now that I made a rod change ($9.00) and about 5 minutes.. It was a bit lean from the factory for my 327, but after a simple rod change its like a completely different beast....

I'm also running a Edel...RPM airgap intake (7516) vortec style... its a screamer!!!

#1406 is a "safe" and simple bet.. if you are on these forums asking for carb advise....

Re: Edelbrock Performer Series for 350

I have a Carter 9635 AFB on my '71 Jimmy. It's the equivalent of the Edel 1405, 600CFM Manual choke on a 350. I also have an Edelbrock 1404 500 CFM on the 292 L6 in my '68 Stepside. Great carbs and they are simple to tune.
Flatlanders don't understand how radical changes in density/altitude can affect carb tuning. I used to ski and was active in mountain rescue. I took my trucks everywhere. I will not use anything but a manual choke. If you keep your truck at one elevation for its whole operational life, you can hope an automatic choke will make the right decision for you. I found they usually do the wrong thing at the wrong time. With a manual choke you just pull the knob if you want a choke or leave it alone if you don't.

If you're asking for opinions I'd say a '76+ quadrajet, a good tuning book, and a spreadbore performer manifold. Mine has no egr but has provisions for my hot air choke.

Not sure what the difference is with the 1406 and the 1806 beyond the 600 vs. 650 cfm rating. But thats the one I have on order and should do better than the Holley 600 cfm I currently have (and is leaking fuel btw).

Re: Edelbrock Performer Series for 350

The avs series carbs (that 650) have a screw adjustable secondary opening spring. Might be some other differences as well

Mopar used to use AVS Carters on their big block 440s in the '70s.
One difference between the old schule Carter and the next generation EDL AVS <<THUNDEROR>> is that the step-up rods on the old AVS had 3 steps -one for mid-range settings for HD/towing apps-- and the Thunder has only 2, same as the AFB /Performer.
You can't get the 3-step rods any more. Too bad, but we all have to work with what we got.

Exactly!
I've got a quadrajet from a 79 corvette on my '71 350 truck and it runs like a top.
perfect!
