truck not starting
hi im new to the threads i have my grandfathers old 70 chevy lwb i just got it out of the shop and took the old 250 out and put in a tricked out 350 got home and now it wont start. i have power and all but when i turn the key it does not turn over when i jump the starter it does not engage the benidex any help would be greatful thanks

First off, Welcome to the board!
If you're getting power to the (purple I think) wire going to the 'S' terminal of the starter solenoid (Not the 'I'), then you need to look at the starter/solenoid. You say that when you 'jump' the starter manually the bendix doesn't engage.. but does the motor spin? If so you have a problem with the bendix drive, since the 'throw' of the bendix is part of what engages the starter motor itself. And again, be sure you're jumping from the center terminal (where the battery cable hooks up) to the 'S' terminal on the solenoid. If you have a full 12 volts of power going to the starter and it will not turn, then the starter is bad. If you do not even hear a click at the solenoid while putting power to it, then it may just be the solenoid that is bad. However, I usually just replace the entire starter.

Neutral switch may be the culprit also.

ok i have ruled out the starter and the solenoid they are good and work proper i was informed that it might be the fusable link or the ignition switch is that possible and if so which should try first thanks for the info i am very thankful

hey rustyparts where would this neutral wire be hooked to im not going to ask what color and that as the rigged the wiring in the shop thanks

yea theres prolly 20 wires not hooked up to anything just laying on top of the motor they are really giving me the red@*$ every time i look at stuff on there they took parts and all lol they are killing me

thanks for all the help fellas just got this thing running again today the blasted shop didnt know how to wire the starter up right it origanlly had four wires hooked up now only three and they had a wire on the wrong post gotta love them small town shops
