Did 72 C10's have an adjustable Panhard/Track bar stock?

Hey guys,

Well I found my motivation to finish lowering my truck, the front is almost done . While I am looking at my rear end today and realize that my track bar has a threaded adjustable end on it.

Did these come stock with and adjustable track bar in 72? I don't think they did but I am not positive. If it is an aftermarket one I am stoked cause its one less thing I have to order.

Does anyone know the length of the stock track bar as well?

Thanks again guys, for answering all of my random questions.

Thanks guys, looks like I have an adjustable one from the PO. My rear drop springs will be here Friday, and I dropped the front today.

Thanks.

They are coming, man even with just the front dropped I fell back in love with this truck. They sure do look good lowered.

Re: Did 72 C10's have an adjustable Panhard/Track bar stock?

Just removed and installed a new adjustable tracking arm on my build.
Hears a picture of the stock tracking arm. It measured 23.8 inches centerline to centerline of the holes. With a 4 inch drop, rear end centered and adjustable tracking arm set it was approximately 1/8 inch shorter. You can see on my build thread that the arm is almost level with the frame at a 4 inch drop (post #276) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...72#post3948172

How much are you lowering the rear? The stock length will not work. The best thing to do is lower it, then measure the distance of the back plates to the frame in the same location. That measurement should be the same, if not the track bar needs to be lengthened or shortened untill it does. If you are lowering it 4" or more, you will need a super track bar so you can have some sort of angle on it. That way the truck won't feel sloppy after lowering it. WES

Only 1/8 inch shorter? I thought the difference would be more than that on a 4 inch drop. If only 1/8 inch difference then it would seem to me that one could get away with using the stock track bar with a 4 inch drop or less. I doubt you could feel a handling difference with the rear end only 1/8 inch out of whack. They were probably more than 1/8 inch out of whack straight from the factory.

You sure will feel the difference. I have fixed 3 trucks in my shop that came in over the last year because of this. They get up to about 50mph and the truck feels unstable or wormy. The faster you go, the worce it gets. Once I install the right bar and adjust the rear end back to center the truck drives as good as new. WES
