LWB to a SWB
I have to 81 chevy trucks, one I have had for 16 years now and the other I just got. My plan is to build the new short box up, and I also want to build the long box to, but I would like to turn it into a short box. Here's my question...
Has anyone cut the long box and made it a short box, if so how would I fugure on how much to cut out of the front and the rear of the box? |

When cutting the frame it is 14" from the middle and 6" from the rear, so I would imagine the bed would be the same. Remove 14" from in front of the wheel well, and remove 6" from behind it.

Ive never thought about having to cut out some from the rear of the frame to, thanks. My origanl plans were to take my old cab and front end and put it on the SWB, but I also just bought a 91 burb for the engine for my sons truck, and all the front end of the burb is in such nice shape I figured I'd build two SWB.

I wish I had taken a pic... but before I found this forum, I looked at potentially buying a '73 stepside 4x4. upon seeing this piece of work, I saw that owner had taken a longbed and just plopped a short stepper bed on the frame. there was frame sticking out the back and a HUGE gap between the cab and bed. turns my stomach to think about it. I'll probably have nightmares tonight
